Hello,

I have been on the lookout for my first PRS and had this individual contact me in regards to my fs/ft trade ad for my 2012 R8 on Craigslist...Shhh don't let the guys on the Les Paul Forum know...haha. It's a PRS Singlecut Semi-hollow body. Here's the link of his guitar:

http://nashville.craigslist.org/msg/4445815262.html

It looks killer but I can't figure a few things out about it and am looking for some help from those of you who have PRS guitars.

1) It's supposedly 1 of 90 produced semi hollow guitars with no f holes. From the limited information I can find on them is that these were only sold at three dealers and were a very limited run. The seller says this one was sold new at Martins Guitars in Memphis.

2) The back of the of the headstock is signed by Paul Reed Smith...but it says "To Bill"??? The seller states the original owner "Bill" is who this is in reference to. Would this of came from the factory like this or was it done later?

3) The seller says it was produced on 01/10/2007, I'm assuming going off the info on the hang tags, but the first digit in the serial number is a 6. Which I believe indicates it was produced in 2006? The guitar looks to be the real deal but this concerns me.

4) Lastly what is the value of one of these? I can't really find any recent sales to go off of. I found a Jet White one listed on eBay last year for $2499 and an older listing (circa 2007) for a Whale Blue example for $2100ish.

Sorry for so many questions but I've never traded over craigslist and just don't want to get burned, especially on my first PRS! Any and all input on this guitar will be greatly appreciated!

Thanks in advance for your replies!

I can't help with this one as I have not had experience with semi-hollows with no F-hole, but I've heard they do exist.

Paul signs the cover plates or the back of headstocks at the sales events he attends frequently. It is not unusual to see these and it is a nice feature but doesn't add significant value to the guitar as he signs many of them (I have 6 of them signed). You can take the "To Bill" off if you just want the PRS sig on it.

The date on the hang tag is when they cased it and shipped. The serial number is put on earlier in the process. Since the date on the hang tag is early Jan it seems reasonable.

It is worth what someone is willing to pay. It is more unusual in that it is semi-hollow LE (if it really is), and if you like that then it might be worth more than other SC's, but the average SC sells used for less than those numbers (in the teens).

Ive seen that particular guitar. (I too am in Nashville) and there is simply no way on earth that I would trade an R8 for it. It is way far from a 3500 guitar and he probably knows that, but is fishing for takers.

This is what I was concerned about. I'm not knowledgeable enough on PRS to know what their worth...thanks for the heads up I appreciate it!

Guitar was probably given it's serial # late in 2006 and completely assembled early in 2007. Not a problem.

The price? If I was selling? GREAT price. If i was buying... No way... Your research is much closer to the correct value...
