Hey folks - I've been offered a 2008 Mira in trade for my 2013 Am St. Strat. The values seem to be fairly close if I'm estimating properly, but I've seen a variety of Mira models - "Korina," "S2," "Mira" by itself. Moons, birds, etc.

Want to make sure I'm up to speed on what I'm buying. Is there a good spot to know the history of the Mira, how they changed over the years with the different names, values of the various models, etc?

And what do people think of the 2008 Mira model?

Thanks!

You can search for some old random articles from PG or GW but, generally speaking, the differences in Mira’s were mostly wood construction until the “X”, 25th, and then finally the S2 line, at which points it became a different guitar. Until then pickups, hardware and features were the same.

2008 models are excellent, I think that’s what year mine is?

Give it a shot, I didn’t intend to fall in love with mine as hard as I did, and they’re a bargain on the used market at the moment.

2008 to 2010 were the years the Mira took off like a rocket. Then they seemed to level off and so it eventually migrated to the S2 line. Those Core guitars are rock machines. Still a fine guitar in the S2, but not 24 frets. I love my 2008!

I remember Paul talking at a very early Experience about the Miras and a guitarist they were talking with, but, lo, that guitarist stuck with his old faithfuls...(SG, and Strat)...anyone that was there remembers WHO he was referencing...the early Miras are just much better versions of the SG....

Still kicking myself for missing out on the MiraX. Fatter neck, 22 frets. I had an anniversary Mira for a minute-the last one Musicians Friend had in fact, in the blueburst sapphire or whatever it was called. P-90's, light, beautiful, cool case, but that neck was just too small so I sent it back and someone else snagged it quickly I'm sure.

Mira MT (maple top) was the pinnacle and most expensive, although many like all hog
Core Mira is solid mahogany with or without birds. This is what I have and it's killer
Mira X came out as a less expensive alternative and is missing the coil split switch
Mira S2 came out last and is great, but less well appointed than the core. Has split on the push/pull tone knob, and there's a semi hollow version.

I see what you did there.

My buddies store had a flamed maple top, blue Mira marked down a few years ago to a price so low my jaw dropped when I saw it. They were having a big sale. I made the mistake of playing it and fell in love with it. I came home and listed two of my old guitars for sale and before either one sold, he called me to tell me it was gone. I knew it wouldn’t last at that price. Should have put a deposit on it!

The Core 2007 Miras were the only year that the solid abalone inlay fret markers were made. I have one in mint condition that I am considering selling.

Hog midrange without the annoying neck dive, great guitars
