Hey there! Just seeking some advice from those who might know more. I have an se Custom 24 that I have modded and upgraded to hell and back (tuners, nut, bridge and trem block, push/pull 3-way wiring to 5-way... and 85/15s pickups to the limited release 85/15 TCI). It sounds pretty fab but contemplating a change. I have a lone PRS metal bridge pickup that I am considering swapping in. Any opinions on how the combo of an Alnico 2 Neck would sound with the ceramic Metal \m/ in the bridge?

@Bowtiefanatc oh sweet! That’s good to know. Thanks for your suggestion. Right now the Metal pickup is in my PRS Stela paired with a BKP Supermassive HSP90 in the neck, and really don’t like how they sound paired together in the middle position. So, I’ve got a BKP Supermassive HSP90 bridge coming to replace the Metal pickup. You’re confirming my urge to pop it into the custom 24. 👍

Highly recommended. I called it the “modern Dragon 1” pairing. I feel like the 85/15 treble doesn’t have enough punch. The \m/ is a much better pairing I think.

Sorry to revive an old thread. Im debating on this combo or a BKP Alnico Nailbomb for a PRS CE24. I usually play medium output pickups at most though. Could you tell me how hot the \M/ are compared to the 85/15? PRS didn't give me much through email.

Hi there and welcome! Well, the 85/15 and \m/ pickups vary greatly. Output on the 85/15 neck is about 7.4k while the \m/ bridge is hotter at around 15k. I’m going by memory so those who have the accurate numbers please correct me on this. You will have to adjust with pickup heights a bit to get them to play nice with each other. I wound up abandoning the project and selling my SE Custom 24 when I got my Core McCarty 594 single cut. I bonded with that guitar so fast I knew I really wasn’t gonna pick up the SE too much after that. Definitely discovered in the end that I much preferred the 58/15 LT+ pickups over the 85/15 and \m/ combo. But of course everyone’s ears perceive differently. For the record I am a huge BKP fan and would personally go for the nail bomb set if I were making that decision again.
