PRS McCarty Hollowbody Spruce Antique White, 1999

Alrighty then..sorta odd, but ok. :D

Cool guitars, I was after one for a while. White guitars sound almost as good as blue. ;)

Doug, still with the guitar? Is this a 594? Never seen a McCarty Hollowbody non 594

FYI means for Your Information. PSA means Public Service Announcement.

I never did have the guitar, never bought it. I was just letting others know about it. That guitar is/was in Dave Burrluck's book "The PRS Electric Guitar: A Complete History of Paul Reid Smith Electrics." Page 137.

There is a current version on the PRS web site: https://prsguitars.com/electrics/model/mccarty_594_hollowbody_ii_2024.

This is a version of the original McCarty Hollowbody that was available with a spruce top for a time. I’ve got one from 1999 (white) and one from 2004 (black), and they are among the best guitars I ever owned. I also have a 594 Hollowbody II, and they are also excellent, but clearly different.

Mine are shown in the tread below, if you’d like to see what they are:

I was thinking of buying that spruce top that I originally posted about a couple of months ago. However someone else bought it before I could. I imagine that the spruce top made a great sound.

Because of the top, I thought the sound might be a bit softer as I only ever had spruce tops on acoustic guitars. I was right in that it’s a very nice tone, plugged in or not, but wrong in the sense that it can rock with the best of them. You can get surprisingly loud without feedback issues. And it is blissfully light.

Oddly, I was in the market for a white 594 HB II at the time, and couldn’t find one anywhere. Serg put me on to this one (identical to the ad you posted) and I was very glad he did. It’s a special guitar.

The one I posted about was being sold at The Twelfth Fret shop in Toronto.

Yes, it was just like HB-S you posted, but I almost didn’t buy it because I was looking for the then-relatively-new 594 McCarty version. After looking it over a few dozen times, I decided to give it a shot. Obviously, I’m very glad I did! Though I did eventually get the 594 HB, it didn’t replace the HB-S. That should tell you how good it really is!
