PRS Model history page says: "LIMITED EDITION: 1990 - 1991. Signature grade woods, semi-hollow body with cedar, redwood, or maple top, gold hardware, tune-o-matic bridge and stopbar tailpiece (a few tremolo equipped guitars were made), signed and numbered, only 300 made."

How about that fretboard. Is it with Brazilian rosewood like PRS Custom was that time?

Vintage Guitar Magazine Price Guide 2018 says that "less than 300 made" How many?

Thanks a lot.

Yes.

Vintage Guitar Magazine Price Guide 2018 is wrong.

How many?

Over 300. Of the numbered guitars, a few numbers were duplicated. There were a few more than didn't quite make the cut that were sold as regular production guitars. Those didn't get a number and generally didn't get a signed headstock.

Thanks, Mine is #31(that profile picture guitar), and I know that those numbers where not in logical order. Mine is '91.

If you have an information source on this, I’d love to know. I just found #4 of 300. It is in good shape, but the “Limited Edition #4 of 300” is definitely harder to read than late production models (e.g. 2019 and later models). Also, I can’t find a trace of where Paul signed.

You’re less likely to get a response from Hans, he’s rarely on the forums these days.

But his information is correct, he’s a PRS Sherpa.

He would have signed on the front of the headstock. Instead of getting a manufactured logo (which is a facsimile of his signature), these guitars got his actual signature on the front/face of the headstock.
Thanks Going_Modal and Sergiodeblanc. I've been looking closely at the front under multiple light sources, but can't see a thing on the front of the headstock. The text on the back is light, but the front seems to not have any markings. I'm assuming that after Paul signed, the signature would have been coated with nitro (or equivalent) afterwards. That leads me to the conclusion that, while this is a labeled #4 of 300(ish), that this one was mistakenly not signed but was part of the limited edition release... OR, they didn't sign some of the first ones.... but it sounds like #4 doesn't mean it was early in release schedule... as the serial starts as 1 ('91).

Mine is currently residing in the PRS Archives...

It magically turned into my PS #234 HBII...

Hello guys,
After searching years and years about mine limited PRS, I came across this thread.
Here's my with no back-signature of Mr. Paul Reed Smith himself, only a 1990 serial number stamped in the back of the headstock.
May anyone have a clue what kind of guitar I have ;) ?

If you ever want to sell that piece of perfection, please give me a chance to take it off your hands! That is an incredible instrument IMO!! I may have to move mountains to make it happen, but I will certainly try if given the chance ;~))

Cheers,
What's strange, it only has a factory stamped serial number on the back (confirming it's 1990 origin), as you can see in the photo, there are no hand-signature on the neck and back:

I remember as I got her, my first though was: she must be semi-hollow. Because the resonance, weight of the guitar and the body thickness (>40 mm) differs it totally from my other PRS'es I ever had :)
It looks like it's a cedar wood or other exotic, and the fingerboard is also brazilian, with an unique texture. Got CITES of course.
Need to look into the pickups cavities for more details as I remember it has a different wiring and pickups, dedicated to Limited Edition 90-91, only based on a regular Artists Alnico (awesome midrange and sweetnes, but not for the hardest metal ;))

If I find, I will upload my past 1991 Custom 24 with tune-o-matic and brazilian board. I was so stupid to let her go... :D

There's a redwood one floating around the verb. but it's an overpriced beater

After contacting PRS Customer Service (get a contact with Chris Andrews and others - really helpful ppl up there) but they told me almost nothing more than I was expected. It is a chambered body with more thickness, brazilian wood and 1 piece signature-level top. Something similar to Limited 90'th series, definitely a some special order.

Picture of my others to get an attention ;) CU24 1990 vs ST24 20'th 2005. Which one would you choose?
