PRS Korean Quality

I have a MIM strat, and actually really like it. I've heard some people complain about them being inconsistent, I don't know about that one way or another, maybe I just got a good one. But anyways, even liking my strat, the SE's are fantastic guitars. I think the pickups are better, and they're usually set up better as well. The trem on the SE models is also an improved design and better parts than a MIM strat.

My very first electric was a MIM Strat. Moving from a not very expensive Fender acoustic, it felt like heaven by comparison. I played it about a year before I bought a core line Santana III. Again night and day.

But the MIM Strat was fine for where I was musically at the time. Later, I bought one of the early Santana SEs. I was surprised that it was not much of a step down futon the Santana III. I was way better than the MIM Strat in QC, setup, playability and tone.

I still have the MIM Strat, but it doesn't get played. It isn't worth much now, but I still can't sell it. It was the first electric an it had its day.

I've got a MIM Strat and I love it. Quite a few people have played it and they all think it's a great guitar.

That said. The stock pups were awful and I completely re-did the electrics and swapped the nut. The rest of the build quality is faultless and with the upgrades I have no complaints about that guitar. Plays and sounds fantastic. The SE's I've had outstripped the MIM Strat out of the box and I'd hazard a guess that the QC on the SE's is consistently much better than the MIM Strats.

Maybe I got lucky?

Certainly, when it comes to the crunch I'd probably choose the SE if you're looking for a good quality relatively inexpensive trem equipped guitar. Beyond that they're different beasts!

Id say the SE line varies from good to very good.

I havent played one that blew me completely away and I havent heard one that really disappointed.

The SE line is top notch. I put it near the top of the list for any import guitars.

I have a couple of MIM Strats and they are good players and are built well, but the SEs I have are built to a higher standard and you can feel it as soon as you pick one of them up to play. Different animals but both great guitars. ENJOY!!!

Same story here - they are 2 different guitars, both very playable, BUT I had to mod the MIM Strat with noiseless Lace Sensor pickups which kept the tone well and gave it a bit more power (why do Fender still insist on these noisy things as stock? :iamconfused:) and work was needed on the trem. Other than that, I was really happy with it. I find the fretwork on the SEs superior, though, and the set up on my Bernie was second to none. If you want the Fender tone, get that. Otherwise I would go for the SEs.
