PRS John Mayer Press Conference - Winter NAMM 2017

Thanks for posting this! I enjoyed hearing Mayer discuss what he was listening for and thinking about when working with PRS on the amp.

I also liked the tones he was showing off. I was interested in the amp when it was announced, and now I have GAS for one, plain and simple.

I'm going to have to go on a saving spree to get one. ;)

After my initial sticker shock at the price but now after seeing and hearing this demo from the guitar player that worked with Mr.Smith and Mr.Sewell I can now appreciate what they were striving for in this incredible professional studio/stage state-of-the-art amp. For those in the music business I can clearly see where there will be a return on investment. This isn't a 'man cave' amp, it's place is on a stage and in the studio every day and twice on Sunday. And what we're looking forward to is the 'trickle down' design effects in future PRS high end amplifier heads.

The video was great. I feel that he will be a fabulous asset to the PRS franchise. He is a great player and hopefully his influence on amp building will trickle down to the rest of the line.

I loved his reaction when Paul pointed out McLaughlin's guitar.

That amp sounds incredible, especially when John plays through it! Lots of tone in those fingers. Too rich for my blood, but I'm sure those who buy them won't be disappointed, even minus one set of JM hands.

Although I do have to say, I've heard some Sonzera clips that sound RIGHTEOUS as well. The Facebook live post of Bryan Ewald playing it was impressive. Would love to hear the 50 head shootout agains the J-mod, through the same cabinet.

Very articulate, loved how it went into his feel as a player rather than an amp feature run down.

I'll buy his album

Thks for posting that

Excellent point about the cabinet. Loaded with a pair Celestion G12-65 Heritage Series speakers. Wondering if anyone here on the forum has those in a 2x12?

I had a Two-Rock head and matching cab with 65s in it back when Celestion production was in the U.K., before PRS made amps. The Heritage version is U.K. made, too. These are also the speakers Robben Ford used with his Dumble, and at the time, the "big thing" was to go for that Robben Ford sound.

This combination certainly did that. However, Mayer's amp tones aren't like Ford's, his sound is more toward classic Blackface. But they're terrific speakers, warmer than V30s, i.e., less upper mid peak, nice and detailed. I liked them.

The cab sounded great, but remember that the TR cabs had a center oval port, and were Birch Ply, not Pine. So it'd be kind of an apples/oranges comparison with the PRS cab.

I've been contemplating putting a set of ET10's from WGS (their take on a 65 in 10" form) in my Vibrolux, if I find the need for different speakers. They're a huge 100dB sensitivity, vs the stock speakers, which are 95dB. The amp has a pretty narrow band on the MV where it sounds nice and punchy, so I just need to figure out what volume level I'll most often need.

But, anyways, cool sounding speakers, with that sweeter top end. Love the way John makes them sound.

As Eric Clapton said "John Mayer is a master guitarist". There is a lot of tone in his right hand and I love that percussive sound he seems to incorporate into a lot of his playing. Unless I get some donations from someone, I will be looking at the Sonzeras ;)

The JM amp coupled with his guitar, sounded out of this world.
