Hi,

I am considering to buy a 10-top Hollowbody that dates to 2003. Non-piezo that is. I guess the neck carve should be wide-fat, but I want to double check: have these Hollowbodies ever been manufactured with some other neck carve than wide-fat?

The pickup rings and knobs are not original. How would you say this affects the value?

Anyone find the slight neck heaviness to be a problem?

Thanks in advance!

They are all wide fat until the change over to pattern.

Knobs and rings I wouldn't worry about.

I find it a bit unbalanced, but the neck doesn't dive (like an acoustic or Firebird, etc.), even when using regular cheap nylon straps

-Most are WF that I've run across.
-Pup rings & knobs are the cheapest/easiest things to correct.
-I find my HB to be perfectly balanced, no neck dive at all, and by far superior to PRS solidbodies for sitting down playing.

Thanks for your input.

I play 95% of the time sitting down, so the slight neck heaviness should not be an issue.

One more question: one of the reasons why I would like to have a hollowbody is late night practicing at home when the rest of the family is sleeping (I'm usually playing while watching TV). Acoustic guitar is too loud and solid electric too quiet. I don't like to play with headphones, computers, ipads etc. when practicing, so I guess the natural solution is Hollowbody? It's noticeably louder than solid guitar, but not nearly as loud as acoustic? Which translates to = exactly what I want?

Yes - louder than a solid body by far, but not nearly as loud as a full acoustic. Should be perfect for ya!

One more question: where is the modcat code located in hollowbodies? The code should confirm the neck profile?

The seller says that neck is "not thick" even if it should be wide-fat profile. I want to be 100% sure before making the deal.

It should be in one of the pic up cavities, like all the guitars...

And I've never seen a wide thin HB...

MODCAT is under the neck pickup. There's nothing under the bridge pickup but air. It might still be on the case or hang tag, too. Hang tag will outright say "WF" on it.

I would be shocked to find a WT Hollowbody outside of PS. If you like the guitar, I'd buy with confidence that it's WF.

Thanks for your help. The modcat was checked and I bought the guitar. The w/f neck is perfect and the guitar is not at all neck heavy. Honestly, after two days of playing, I gotta say that it's the best guitar I ever laid my hands on!

That's awesome! Congrats on finding a winner!

I would love a prs hollow body.
Well, ya know, they do kinda sell them, used and new...

:p

Some nice looking ones on Reverb right now, with piezos. One of these days I'll add a HB II to the collection, but my Spruce HB does me just fine for now.

Yup, that's the dangerous part!!! I think I would prefer the thicker body version though.I just bought another CE a few months ago and a ccustom 50 head with 1x12 cab so I'm tapped out for now. For now!
