PRS guitar to complement 408 and HB II?

Hi there,

I am currently thinking of getting another PRS, but not quite sure which model to chose: I already have a 408MT and a Hollowbody II and love them both. My preferred music styles are anything from Folk, Blues to classic Rock, my big hero is Mark Knopfler, but I'm also really into Buddy Guy and B.B.King.

What do you think would complement my two beauties best?
I am currently thinking about a 513, P22 and the DGT signature model. Played the DGT model recently, loved it for the big sound and great neck. The 513 is hugely versatile, the P22 combines the great pickups from the HBII with a solid body.
Kind of Sophie's Choice here, albeit a luxury one.

So I am really curious what the experts and PRS aficionados here in this forum think...

Best regards,

JoJo

I'd do a shorter scale guitar than those. An SC245 would be a different animal to those tonally and still cover a lot of what you're into.

I was also going to suggest a single cut with a shorter scale. Maybe also look at what pups you might want to explore if the stock pups in any SC245 you find are not different enough from your current sound. The SC245 comes with 57/08s - I dunno if other pups were offered before, and certainly an Artist Package could give you more opportunities to customize pups and more.

Or dare I suggest a Mira or a Starla - very different from the rest of the line up, from what i understand. Perhaps a semi-hollow S2?

Based on what you already have, I think you need something that specializes single coil goodness.

A 513 is one of the best in the lineup.
I would also suggest maybe thinking about a DC3 or 305 as they are strat killers and with your music taste would work well and be different

SC Ted with P-90's; short scale, extra body mass and P-90's are definitely going to be different & not as thin as single-coils.

Okay, didn't see that coming: most votes for a SC (with possible pickup change) or the 513 (considering that the latter sort of specialises in single coils). Thanks for your kind suggestions!

I have to say though, that I am not really comfortable with the single cut body shape. That's why I thought about the DGT for a warmer, vintage tone: I was given the opportunity to test-drive a DGT recently and it sounded more Les-Paul-y to me than most of Gibsons single cut offspring.

For the single coil tone, the 513 seems to be the only option currently available from PRS, as the 305 is - much to my regret - no longer manufactured and my favourite colour is not available in Europe any more.

I'd say 513 or Studio or NF3 or DC3.

Singlecut would be cool too. Which version depends on whether or not you get along with the short scale.

When I faced a similar quandary, I choose not to decide and smashed all those guitars together with my last Private Stock build. It's a 513 with a DGT neck carve, the wood choice from an Experience P22, and a piezo system. It's the brightest 513 in my collection, a real strat killer with a seriously good acoustic tone.
