...does it take out light surface swirls?
or are there other preferred products anyone is using for that?

Most won't. Maybe with a buffing wheel. In my experience it's been mostly a waste of money and time. Biggest thing is to use little to no pressure when cleaning in the first place. That can be tough if you ride hard and put away wet.

I have mostly nitro finished PRSes; the PRS polish isn't recommended for nitro, so I had to try other nitro-safe polishes. The one I found that works best so far to remove very light finish issues is Virtuoso. They have two formulations, one with stronger abrasives that is followed up by the lighter one.

I've never needed the stronger one. The polish doesn't seem to leave a residue, and it works with PRS' other finishes besides nitro. It also works quickly without a lot of heavy rubbing.

One key is preventing swirl marks. Cotton fibers leave swirl marks, even soft cotton; I've switched to a very soft and thick microfiber towel made by Griot's Garage that doesn't cause swirl marks, for both cleaning and polishing. Here's a link to that:

+ 1 on the Griots microfiber. I use them on my guitars and my Ferrari. They do a great job and are very durable and stand up to washing machines very well, unlike cheaper micro fiber. And on that note never wash microfiber with cotton towels...little cottom balls everywhere stuck to the microfiber....ask me how I figured that out!

Also if you have a bad swirl mark/light scratch I have used the soft micro mesh pads from StewMac. I use the one that is rated at 12,000 grit mostly and it has done wonders on some of the used guitars I have bought that needed some serious love.

I use them wet but instead of water I use the PRS Polish as the lubricant. It was able to take out a scratch/ding on my McCarty with it and you can't see it or feel it now.

I have used Meguiars wax and swirl remover for years works on both Nitro and Poly finishes ( just for the deep cleaning ) once a year or as needed and regular liquid guitar polish for dusting a luther I knew long ago turned me on to this ( car wax ) they used to make a 3 step paint restore kit that was to die for now you have to pick and chose what works best for you bonus is it works great on my motorcycle also :)

Too late for me. I've been around longer than micro cloths......
Hahaha. My guitars that are worst in terms swirls and such are 20 years old, before I knew much of anything about guitar care. If I repurchased all my guitars today, they would look far better 20 years from now!:)
