Hi

A local guitar store has a couple of supposedly brand new PRS guitars for sale which are as far as I can gather very cheap. i.e. $500 AUD (SE Custom 24) to $600 AUD (SE Tremonti) AUD. They are claiming 12mth warranty. Any advice as to questions I should ask in regard to the authenticity or things to look out for. Or am I insane for even thinking these could possibly genuine? (Its ok you wont hurt my feelings if you are honest).

Cheers

Ben

Well, let's see. 1 AUD = 0.94 USD, or 94 cents, making the CU24 $470USD, and the Tremonti $564USD. Those guitars retail on the streets(in The USA) for $679(CU24) and The Tremonti has two versions, older one is $545USD, newer is $679USD. Those sound like Used prices to me. Are you concerned that they may not be actual PRS'? Any pics you could post that would help us Identify? What condition are the guitars in?

I'm assuming that you already know that the SE (Student Edition) series of PRS guitars are make in Korea (I think) and they are quite a bit less expensive than their core line of PRS guitars which are made in Maryland USA.
The SE series of PRS guitars are VERY well made instruments which are also very affordable.

Those were frankly the prices that Guitar Center was selling them at a few months ago so I dont think its a big blow out to be considered a fake or anything. And at the beginning of this year, I heard they were selling at $400 USD for the SE24. That said, all guitars in at Guitar Center are basically used guitars, demo'd to death, or open boxed items. Seldom stores will sell guitars Mint In Sealed Box, but some will have them and thats what to ask for. What you want to look out for is check out the humbuckers, usually they are pretty banged up from playing, hold it up against the light, and look at it closely, you will see it if its really demo'd to death or not. Maybe check out the strings and make sure they are new and feel new. Hold the guitar again against the light and check the top near the playing area where you would strum to strings and just look out for strumming wear. I bought mine on ebay around 500 shipped. It was doubled checked and gaurenteed to be MISB, and it was after a thorough check. and at your price that you will be paying, they better come with a gig bag, if not, ask for a further discount. In fact bargain with them, and tell them to lower it more, since you now know they were selling these everywhere in the beginning of the year at 400.
