I have a Gibson ES-345 with jumbo frets. Absolutely love the neck and the playability, and those frets! I've wanted a PRS for the longest time, and when I read that the DGT also has jumbo frets, I went to my local dealer back in 2016 and picked out 5 DGTs, and after playing them for about 3 hours, took one home that felt the most comfortable to me. This is by far the best playing and highest quality instrument that I've ever owned, and I own about 20 Gibsons, Fenders and Taylors. I'm still on a honeymoon with this instrument.
Now, I find myself hired into a large production country band, and even though I have 3 American Tele's, I wish I could find one, even by another manufacturer other than Fender, that has a similar neck and jumbo frets like my DGT. I have a set of professional neck radius gauges and have been checking the neck radius on my Tele's, and a few have a consistent radius, and one has a compound radius. Now just for the heck of it, I checked the DGT, and much to my surprise, found that it has a 7.25 radius at the first fret, and a 9.5 radius on the 22nd fret. All info that I've found on the DGT shows that these guitars have a 10" radius. I've double checked it and triple checked it. I then called one of the customer service reps at PRS and he confirmed that the DGT has a 10" radius. Hmm. He then suggested that perhaps, since I purchased the guitar from one of the top PRS dealers in the country, that it might have been a special order and I got lucky with this one. I then contacted my friend at the dealer and he said that he was unaware of any special DGTs that they ordered or was received. Hmm.
Am I looking at this wrong, or does anyone else have a DGT with a compound radius neck? I love how this instrument feels and plays.
