PRS Collection Guitar or PRS Collectible Guitar...

Curious if your more of the new "Collection Guitar" type of Person, or if a PRS "Collectible Guitar" is more your taste in the SAME price range?
OK... so Collectible could be defined as an early PRS say 1985 or 1986, an early Signature 86-88, an Artist Guitar ie: David Grissom or Paul Smith's personal, a Santana Dragon, Rosewood LTD, Violin Guitar or maybe something else....

I think the Collectible Guitar is a safer bet financially. Functionally I prefer the Collection Series stuff.

This is an interesting question, that I might have to hedge on. I buy for my own pleasure with no expectation that I will ever make any money on it. In my mind, I am more interested in collectables, though there are several Collection guitars that I consider fit that category: the DGT Electric, Electric V, the pre-formal Collection Series, Collection acoustics come to mind.
For other collectibles, just the fact that it has a low serial number isn't especially significant to me. Things that come to mind in that category are: an early Santana, the dragons made in the 90s, Rosewood Ltd, the run of 25 DGTs, early archtop, Pauls 28, violin guitar, anything that Paul built for himself (versus he happened to use for a while).

I'd probably fall into the Collection guitar camp. But to kill two birds with one stone, I'd say Collection Santana would probably be one of my top guitars. :adore:

Collectable all the way, especially the Rosewood LTD.

The celtic knot inlays on the Collection guitars keep me from ever wanting one..ever, ever, ever.

My tastes lean towards the "Collectible" side of things. I'm a player, not a collector, so I'll end up expecting whatever I buy to have a shot at being my #1 guitar. The Collection series of guitars look awesome, but I might be afraid to pick one up and put it through its paces.

I don't think you can lose either way, which ever side you lean towards. I think I'd leans to the collectable side, and I agree with Sergio…not a fan of the celtic knots...

It is a very good mix of the Collection's superlative quality and a classic PRS model (even if some people cannot get on with the knots)

Considering I prefer the 5-way rotary and the old alder-body CE24, I probably lean more toward "collectible." But not because they're actually collectible; I just prefer the older designs.

I honestly think the newer guitars have evolutionary improvements, and I'd love to own the right Collection guitar if the opportunity presented itself at the right time.

Then again, I'd rather own a new Core model with no bells and whistles than one of the old collectibles, too, for the same reasons.
