Hi Guys,

I got my new beauty coming in this monday and I was wondering if you guys could help me with a few questions.
It will be my first PRS so I am quite thrilled to get it finally.
It was advertised as 1995 but by the serial number I guess its from 1998.
But also it has no birds, but pearl dots.

Like to hear your guys opinions.

It has the HFS/Vintage Bass pickups :)

Thank you for the quick feedback!
Could it also be HFS/Vintage Bass with covers?

So we got 1 myth busted, its a '98.
But its a true CE24 isnt it? CE24 is a bolt-on and McCarty is set neck as far as I know/see

Its for me hard to see what the difference is between the Mccarty model and CE24.

I am also now only counting 22 frets. I need an expert opinion I think. What models is this, McCarty from 98?

Wouldn’t CE22 be Dragon 2’s?

As per the year 1998 and model CE22 that would make much sense.
Now I wonder, what is a 1998 CE22 worth ?

CE22: 1994 – 2008. Carved maple top, alder back (2008) mahogany back (1994 – present) bolt-on maple neck with rosewood fretboard Wide Thin or Wide Fat neck carve, Dragon I pickups (1994-1997), Dragon II (1998–2008), locking tuners.

Really? I Paid like 1700 euro for them and see on Reverb similar prices.
Guess you have USA prices compared to Europe prices (for me)

I have a new CE24 on order that will not be here for a month or so. Can cancel it though. There is an older CE24 available locally. It has the dots instead of birds, so I am assuming older. Don’t know the date of manufacture. Some say the older models are better. I do like the sound of the 85/15 pickups and the wide slim neck on the newer model. I can’t have both.

I also have a SE Tremonti Custom that I have done a fret level and crown on and like the feel of it. Will probably install lower output pickups as well in it. Thought the 85/15’s would be a nice change to the Temonti’s in a different guitar. Don’t know much about the pickups in the older CE24’s. What do the PRS experts here recommend?

First of all, Benji, congratulations on buying a fine guitar. That’s a real beauty, and looks to be in very good condition. I believe that any guitar you get should be lived with for a month. Learn what you like and dislike about a guitar before you make any changes. Changes and upgrades are not synonymous. Some of my guitars are bone stock, and some have been modified up the wazoo.
Sam, the PRS “experts” don’t recommend the same thing for everyone all the time. We hear, play and want different things from different guitars. That’s why guitars are like potato chips.

The CE-22 is a killer guitar, congrats. I’d take one of those over a CE-24 (or just about any other PRS model) any day.
