PRS Case or Other Brand?

To protect a caseless CU24, would you choose the $200 PRS multi-fit case, or is there another good option for the same price (or even cheaper)?

I had that situation last year, and got a multi-fit. BUT...I also got an Incase gig bag that worked really well. Best gig bag I've ever used.

Then of course, I sold the guitar, and the gig bag. LOL. Well that's me, too much of the buying/selling.

But I kept the multi-fit!

Well, as one that flies intercontinentally a bit for trade shows and such, I would never in my life check in a wood-based case.
It's either carry-on in gigbag (and then with companies I have experience with), or recently for trips to the far east,
I've gotten the new SKB PRS iCase which is just SICK, military grade, flight locks, water and dust-proof, unbreakable plastic (or the next thing to it).
Plus, it is every bit as custom fitted to a PRS as are the actual PRS-cases, just way more roadworthy, worth every penny!

I find the PRS rectangular cases are too bulky so I bought a Mayer Strat Incase gig bag for my McCartys. They fit the prsi very well and have a sturdy build. When I had an SC245, I used a historic LP case for the same reason.

I'm with Richard here. I've been using SKB flight cases for ages and I wouldn't fly my guitars without one. Great case design and very good fit. As for a gigbag alternative lighter traveling I would go with a Mono M80 case. I have their Dual M80 case which I use for local gigs and I love it too bits. Great protection and light weight.

Maybe overkill for everyday use, but that looks awesome for the road. Just great!

Sorry to revive an old thread, but your post caught my attention. I'm considering buying an epiphone les paul case for my Sunburst 245, and I've heard that it might not fit because of differing neck angles. what was your experience with the SC245 and case like?

I have two of those SKB cases and they are fantastic for thicker singlecut guitars.
I would not use the LP case, I would get the same case above as they are cut for most PRS shapes and it will hold your guitar nice and tight.

Are you looking for road-ready ruggedness, or just something to carry the SC245 for local gigs with the guitar either in the back of your car or getting unpacked on stage, with you doing the lugging from car to stage?

If all you need is local carry that you do yourself, you may want to consider a gig bag. The lighter weight will be appreciated, and if you are the one always responsible for lugging, you are not likely to try to set a bass cabinet on top of it.

If you want the hardshell, get the PRS case, especially if you can find it somewhere selling for less than usual. The SKB case shown above isn't much more, cost-wise, and certainly looks sufficient for trekking across oceans in the baggage compartment, but will be bulkier.

There is also a Gator case being sold online at various retailers for a much lower price point that may work - I am not quite sure how well the typical Custom/SC fits into them, though they claim they will.

It seems to get better reviews. But as always with such things, the more you pay, the more likely you are to get a better product, and it seems the gator cases are not quite up-to-snuff QC-wise. The PRS factory case is perfect, of course. I picked mine up for a really good price, so you might want to shop around and/or wait for BF deals...or look on Craigslist/eBay for a used case.

Oh yeah, you could always go to a Guitar Center and see what they have in stock, see what fits best.
