PRS Archon and GCX Midi Switcher / Ground Control Pro

Hi guys,

any of you Archon owners out there switch their Archon via the Ground Control Pro and the GCX? I would like to build my Archon into my rig but I do not know how to set it up with the GCX/GGP. Have sent several mails to PRS, no answer.

Maybe one of you can help me. Really want to have the Archon in my live rig but right now without my effects and switching I still have to go with my Dual Rec.

Since the archon has a specific pinned footswitch jack, you'd have to have a special cable made....that breaks out into 1/4 ends to use in the GCX. A medusa type cable "if" you're hell bent on Voodoo Lab stuff.

However, RJM has a solution https://www.rjmmusic.com/store/product.php?productid=16258 (the cable) and http://www.rjmmusic.com/miniampgizmo.php (the amp switcher)....and integrate the 2 with the Ground Control

Sorry, the RJMM products are hard to get here in Europe, so I have to go with the GCX. And yeah I heard someone talking about a specific cable but nothing has been confirmed to be working. So still waiting for this

I'd really try to get the RJM products if there's any way possible. I never got the loop function to switch on/off properly. Had multiple emails in to PRS and Voodoo but never got instructions as to specific proper wiring with the Voodoo Control Switcher. I gave up since I run wet/dry and don't "need" the loop. I still believe there's got to be a way, just don't have the time to try to work it out.

Your best bet is to either use the RJM or call Voodoo and see if they've built a cable yet.

Well I need my effects of the loop, but have it on all the time. The switching of the effects is done by the GCX loops and the GCP. Would help if I could just switch channels with the GCP/GCX and have the loop of the Archon active all the time. That's would be awesome for me, no need to switch the loop on and off. So VCHIZZLE, you only use the RJM or in addition to the GCX to make the switching work? Have send another email to PRS and a couple of guitar techs, let's see...*HOPING TO GET THIS S/&$% WORKING*

I have not tried to drive my 2 channel with my GCX yet (mine has the directly connected cable not the din at both ens like the early ones) but I have made up cables to control my Carr Slant 6v (also uses a DIN connector) just a case of looking to see which pins need to be shorted to ground then connecting a couple of jacks to the appropriate wires

The last I messed around with it, the loop wouldn't come on when I was on the high gain channel using the Voodoo Lab Control Switcher(it acts as another GCX in your ground control). I'm running the GCX/GCP combo but I think still you need an additional device that acts as the footswitch itself and a custom cable for the Archon. Like I said, I haven't gotten it to function properly and wouldn't want to advise using something that doesn't work properly(maybe it's me). I think the GCX could act as a latching footswitch using 1 of the loops, but I didn't have an open loop to try that with. You may want to double check as to whether it voids your warranty if you plug anything else into the footswitch din jack....that is why I really suggest going with the RJM product and cable. They do their homework and since they have the cable designed specifically for the Archon, that is your safest bet. You have to buy an additional box either way, might as well go RJM since it's made specifically to work with the Archon.

Just wanted to let you know the answer from Voodoo:

"...As the jack is not used for MIDI messaging proper, it cannot be included in the MIDI chain (or controlled direcly with MIDI messages). If you had a cable to break-out the 5-Pin DIN jack to individual 1/4 mono connectors, then these could mate with GCX loops (the OUTs) for switching type control. We do not make any such cable. But, we can build a custom cable for use with Control Switcher (as it has a DIN jack too). The price of the custom cable is $40 + shipping. and it can take up to two weeks to build once your order is placed."

But I really don't know how this will work...I am not a techy guy but this seems to be a solution! So I will put the Control Switcher between the Archon and the GCX using the custom 5-pin DIN cable?

Alright, thanks...No I have to find a fix for the noisy effects loop. If that's done, I sure will put the Archon into my Main Rig and toss my Dual Rec.
