Hi,
I do own both models: if I'd have to decide between the two, I'd go with the DGT at this time.
In terms of versatility, meaning different voicings, my impression is that the DGT delivers a wider span of distinct tones.
Especially the single coil tones have a more distinct voice when compared to the split mode of the 408 pickups.
The volume drop, that is barely noticeable with the 408, is however clearly audible with the DGT pickups.
You have to know, too that when the coil split is active in the DGT, the pickups are out of phase when bridge and neck pickups are both selected. But using the separate volumes, you can dial in a wide variety of mixed tones that can mimic the classical in-between-positions 2 and 4 on a classic Strat 5-position-switch wiring.
My impression is that the DGT really excels in the field of country/blues/classic rock music, delivering any tone you want it to have.
I can't tell about the harder stuff, though...
In terms of playability, the DGT suits me better: that is mainly because the neck profile just feels right to my hands.
Sometimes, I am not too comfortable with the light V near the saddle of the "Pattern" neck, at other times it does just fine.
The DGT shape does always feel right to me...
Please keep in mind that this is a very personal opinion, but maybe it helps.
I don't think that yo can go wrong with either model, but I would always recommend to play both, ideally back-to-back.
this is the only way to find out which one suits YOU bets.
Best wishes,
JoJo
