Hello Everyone (this is actually my first post)
I recently bought a prs se as my first real guitar
It’s been great so far although I want make significant changes soon
My main problem is the colour of the binding . I’ve seen around that if u scrape the yellow binding it becomes white I wanted to know if this is actually true and if i should ask a luthier to do it for me (I’ll be taking it to Andertons In the UK this Christmas ).
Thanks everyone in advance

I didn’t notice that to be true on my Bernie. I think the yellow tint is purposely added and not a product of yellowing lacquer or clear coat.

However, the binding on my Santana SE is bright white.

I see, so if it colouring was a result of the lacquer it would be possible to scrape off or is the other way around

This isn’t essentially what I would like to get but i don’t know whether this is very case specific or not

Yeah, I don’t think that’s gonna happen. I took my Bernie down to bare wood and didn’t see the binding lighten up at all.

Sorry, my quote job is messed up. But my answer is in there if you expand it.

Gibson used to laquer over the binding, or it would just yellow with age.
I think you;ll just end up with the same color all the way through.
