I've become quite interested in the PRS 2-Channel Custom 50 and I need to make an inquiry regarding the boost functions that's a little hard for me to articulate. My local retailer doesn't have a C50 in stock for me to try at the moment.

Are the boost functions designed as second or additional master volumes, or do they function differently? Asked another way, if the master on either channel is cranked or set high, does that reduce the effect of the footswitchable boost for that channel, or do the level knobs on the back of the amp reflect enough headroom to give a further boost?

The reason I ask is that I once, for a very brief period, owned an Egnater Renegade that had a footswitchable "boost" knob for the clean channel which was also described as an "additional master volume". That function was useless to me in practice because I played the clean channel with the master volume pretty much cranked and the "boost" had no effect.

Maybe I'm paranoid, but I noticed on the attached Youtube demo https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HbPtnsOZOG0 (at 3:30) that Mr. Smith for some reason turned down the Master level on the clean channel right before demonstrating the footswitchable boost function.

I'd also like to know from any users whether the boost functions alters the tone of the signal any, either by adding gain or frequencies.

Thanks in advance for any insight.

My question appears to have been answered on another forum:

"Yes, it's like a second master volume. It has to be set higher than your master to be used as a boost. Mesa amps with the solo boost are the same."
