I went to a store and tried the DGT 15 expecting to buy one. I liked it. It was fun, but it was a little harsh, especially the tremolo. I thought I would go ahead and get it anyway. It was something different than my normal clean amp preference. There was an older “30” sitting nearby. I remembered liking the Sweet 16, but I had never tried one. I plugged into it and it didn’t take long to forget about the DGT 15. This one has the “cowboy mod.” Something about a lower input.
I tried to get a matching 212 with the pine cabinet, but ended up with a HDRX 212 with the Creambacks. I don’t know if the pine and V30s would have been better, but after watching a lot of comparison videos of the V30s and Creambacks, the Creambacks seemed to be easier to listen to, so I went with it. This has been a departure from my normal style. I admit it outside my comfort zone, but in a fun way. It is an exaggeration, but I say there isn’t a clean tone in this amp. If I understand correctly, it is 4 EL84s. I don’t know if any of its makeup went into the DG30. I haven’t played through one. I would say it does have some similarities to the DGT 15, but I think it sounds better and it is certainly easier to use. I look forward to exploring it more.
