i got a new prs last year from the guys at TGS, a handsigned custom 24 with custom birds.

well, i have an issue with my tone pot. it started as soon as i got it last year, but it went away for a bit and then came back.

the issue is, the tone pot cuts in and out. the tone pot sometimes does not work until it is fully in the 0 position, and makes a slight pop when it reaches zero. it also has a sweetspot between the 0 and 1 on the knob where the tone pot sounds like there is a fuzz pedal on it and is almost like tv signal sounding. the tone pot works fine when fully on 10 and has no fuzz issues.

i am wondering what i should do to get this fixed. i am not sure if the tone pot is bad or the wiring is bad, and i dont really want to take it to a random repair shop where they will probally use some low quality replacement pot.

it your not ready to tackle this fix, I would take it to a local guitar tech. It is either a pot gone bad or a wire connection coming loose. But, sounds like the pot.

I would agree, the pot itself should be switched out. It's an easy fix that is both fast and cheap. They're between $5-10 for good ones, or PRS sells some too in the store for a few extra $$.

the problem is i can't buy a new pot from prs since they do not ship to canada.

i dont want to change the pot and then have the guitar sound competely different, which is why i would prefer the replacement part to be exactly the way it is now.

im sure the wiring is ok, i doubt with prs' quality control that it would be bad and i am sure the people who do the wiring there know what they are doing

You could get the part through a Canadian dealer. That said, I don't think there would be any tonal shift using any quality pot such as CTS made. It is true that some Asian made guitars are made with less than stellar electronics, and those guitars benefit from an upgrade, but in this case, I don't think you'd hear a difference.

I agree, on the pot brand. I have modded with cts and alpha pots in the past and have not seen a difference in tonal aspects of the guitar. The one thing to consider is, linear pot or audio taper. I believe prs uses a linear taper pots. Someone can check me on that.

long and mcquade can order it in for me for 27 bucks and install it for 30, so i guess i will just go with that
