I'd like some owners to chime in here to answer some questions if they don't mind. For me the ideal examples of this type of guitar have a wonderful honky open mid range with articulate lows and highs as well as plenty of sustain. Is this what yours delivers and if not what is your descriptive take relative to other guitars of similar shape and size? I have one I've been staring down pretty hard, but youtube videos have not convinced me, not that I think a youtube video is the best basis for a decision, but it's all I got sonically for now. Thanks in advance, Phil

Phil, I posted a couple of links to clips of my McCarty Singlecut in other threads, but I'll repost the most representative one here, and you can decide for yourself if it has what you're looking for:

Bridge pickup, straight in to PRS HXDA amp, no pedals:

I won't try to convince you to get one, or not. I love mine. Doesn't mean you'd love yours.

A lot, of course, depends on the amp, and my settings might be way different from yours. Does it have a wonderfully honky open midrange? Sure. So does a '58 Lester, no two of which sound exactly alike, and all of which probably sound a bit different from this brand-new PRS, which has (to my ears) a wonderful blend of PRS and Lester qualities.

I will say that at this kind of dough, you really should play one before deciding. I think you will like the way it plays and handles. It's a step up from a Lester in terms of feel (though, again, this is the way it works for me, and YMMV). Don't buy a guitar from a picture.

In fact, do yourself a huge favor and ignore this picture:

Hi Les, I will definitely give your clips a listen when I get home. Of course everyone loves a good lester and there are lots of opinions on which traits make one. I would love to have good one in a PRS package, because I like how PRS guitars feel and perform. Having said that I had an Sc58 in my hands briefly a few years ago that was a different animal entirely (to me) and have been a little gun shy with this run despite the overwhelmingly positive reception.

Yes, Phil. Don't fight it..... Come to the dark side.....

I love this one. I already lost the battle mostly. Too bad I've been fighting it for 4 months or so or that one might be mine :). For me a lester in PRS clothing sounds too good to be true but I am really optimistic, based in large part on the overwhelmingly positive comments here. Brown is scheduled to give me a visit next week sometime.

Congrats, in advance. Can't wait to see it. I would be shocked if you weren't completely thrilled.
