WOW! That Pale Moon Ebony and Hormigo Board are insane! Roasted maple isn’t bad either ;)

You just had to order a 594 trem in Bahama Blue on quilt the same time the Koa Monster is there didn’t you!?!?

So much goodness at that shop in CT...

I love that Dragon's Breath Hollowbody.... Until you turn it over and see the mismatch Back Plate. Its a pet peeve of mine when I see guitars that have back plates that jump out for the 'wrong' (in my opinion which I know isn't shared by all) reason - whether its a 'plain' back with some bright flame maple backplates or its a 'stunning' back (as in this case) with a plain (although would look stunning if it matched the back of the guitar) wooden Backplate.

The first two, whilst not really my 'colour', the back plates are incredibly well matched with the backs - so much so the 'disappear' - I almost didn't notice the oval switch cavity plate on the blue 594 because they all blend in so well....

Of course this is just my opinion and it really doesn't matter at all because there is absolutely zero chance in me ever being able to see these, let alone ever hold or play them. Even if the cost wasn't an issue, their location (as in they are on US soil where as I am not) is.

GOOT LAWD MAN! THOSE ARE AMAZING!

Thanks for the guitar porn B...good lookin out.;)

That’s would look nice, we like it this way too.

I know that we are all entitled to a opinion, but however it’s an understanding here that we are respectful of dealers builds.

Just saying.

Personally, I think I was being respectful. I made it clear that the guitars looked great and that the 'mismatched' back plate on the rear of the Dragon's Breath guitar was a pet peeve of mine. I also tried to make it clear that this is my and only my opinion and that my opinion on this is irrelevant because the guitar isn't built for me. I thought I was being honest and fair to explain why I (and only me) couldn't like the build as much as it deserves through my own pet peeve. Its like you saying a stunning guitar isn't as stunning to you because they used Black PU rings instead of cream because that's a pet peeve of yours. All I was saying is that the Dragon's Breath looked stunning but, because of my own issues (not the dealer or the builder), I cannot like it as much as it truly deserves. I still love that Dragon's Breath guitar from the front - as I said - but my, and only my issue prevents me from being as stunned at the back with that gorgeous flamed back, the fantastic looking neck with the bird on the heel.

I tried to say that this was just my opinion and trying to be honest and respectful by saying its just 'my' issue and not the dealer or builder but also wanting to let them know that, apart from MY issue, that this is one seriously stunning guitar build. I hope that the dealer didn't take offence, didn't think I was being disrespectful and understand that I wanted to praise this build, wanting to let them know how stunning I find this guitar to be and, apart from my own pet peeve, I would have been even more enamoured with it.

The dealer did respond to me and didn't seem to be offended or appear to think I was being disrespectful. I wouldn't be offended or feel someone was being disrespectful to my Guitars if someone said my HBii was stunning but would have preferred it in Blue because they don't like Red Guitars for example. I would understand that they are still praising my guitar but their own preference would be a 'blue' one - I would feel even more complimented if that person said that their pet peeve was 'red' guitars.

I appreciate that the written word is devoid of any emotion and as such can be taken the wrong way. If I have offended or been disrespectful, I do apologise and all I was trying to do was explain, through no fault of the builders or the person commissioning this build, why I could not give this guitar more praise than it deserves through my own issue, my own pet peeve. Its no different, I think, from those people that say the Silver Sky looks great but they prefer a 6 in a line headstock for strats and so don't like it as much as it deserves or saying they like a PRS but can't like it more because of the 'birds'. Again though, I apologise if anyone has been offended or feel that I was being disrespectful, that was not my intention...

My wife came in the office while I was reading this thread last night, and ogling that Dragon's Breath.

a) That is an incredible guitar. The colors, fingerboard, tuning knobs, etc. Outstanding job guys!
b) I am now forbidden from reading these threads anymore. :D

A question though: When I did my PS HBII build they said there wasn't a backplate, why does this one have one?

This one has a tremolo.

Although it is unusual, from my limited experience, to read any negative comments on this thread at all, I support you in your frank appraisal of what you liked and what you didn't like about the build. When done respectfully, I would think that dealers would find such info useful for future builds. I might also mention that I too, find the appearance of some of the contrasting back plates jarring.

I concur with Mozzi. The "high contrast" backplates, let us say, are an eccentric feature: it will attract some and dismay/deter others. I would hope any retailer would welcome respectfully stated feedback given that the point is, after all, to sell the instrument (such that perhaps an option of a matched backplate vs. an "alternatively finished" one might be offered - at least at these price points). Perhaps the "no negative" might be prudent were this a buyer's thread showing off their new purchase (speak not ill of the newly purchased PRS).

FWIW and IMHO I find both the backplate and the multi-colored tuners off-putting albeit the dragon's breath motif is stunning in the body.

Having just sold a house, real estate agents are likewise put into similar situations in trying to state/explain to the seller why what seems like a great attractive/selling point to them is possibly a deterrent or, at best, simply immaterial to a prospective buyer.

Will now go back to my drooling over that Charcoal Smokeburst Custom 24.
