Pre-2007 vs ‘Current’ Rotary Wiring

So I know that the Rotary Switch is no more, but I’m curious what the difference was between the Pre-2007 and ‘Current’ Rotary Switch wiring as it’s called in the wiring diagrams. The parts look the same, but there is a slight change in the wiring, and I’m curious as to the what it did, and the why. I have an older (96) model with the original electronics, but I have updated the pickups to a Metal bridge and a 57/08 Neck. Anyone know if there’a any real difference between the 2 wiring schemes? One work better for newer pickups than the other?

It would be tricky but I think it cab be done. 5708 pup has hot wire (black center surrounded by braid and there should be a white coil split wire.

I not sure what \m/ pup wires are.

Aren’t they both for 3 wires plus braid? I know I can install The 57/08’s with the Metal pickups, they are compatible, my wiring is the first diagram, the pre-2007. Just wondering why they changed it, and what the change did considering it’s still the same cap values, and the rotary.

PRS pups used with rotary switch color code

PRS has a proprietary color code as compared to DiMaggio or Seymour Duncan. So see photo below

I sorry, I was looking too deeply into things. I reread you original question again.... guess I derailed a bit. Difference is the tone capacitor placement makes a difference in the tone. I thought I saw explained somewhere, if I find it I'll post. Sorry for all the misunderstanding.

Found this in another post:

‘I recommend the "Pre-2007" version. The "Current" one has the tone control in a "50's wiring" configuration (connected to the output rather than the input of the volume pot), which IMO is overkill when you already have a treble bleed cap across the volume pot and it makes the tone control behave badly when the volume is turned down.

I guess it’s just a preference thing. Maybe I’ll try them both one day to satisfy my curiosity.

Good find!

If it is an easy change the best way to find out is as you suggested, give it a try. You may or may not like it better. You may think it made no difference at all. The only real way to find out for sure is to try it.
