Hello all, I am new to the prs world. I have an offer for my Gibson custom Mike Ness #57 of 100 Les paul. The guitar was new at 9000.00 and now sitting on reverb for around 12000.00. The trade is for 4350.00 plus a brand new PRS Studio 10 top. I have never played this guitar but i see it's expensive. In your opinion is it worth the trade ? thank you all for your help with this huge decision.

The Studio is a killer guitar, though I don’t know if those values line up for you. If you can get $12k for yours, you can buy a Studio with half that, less used. I don’t know specialty Les Paul prices, so I couldn’t be much help there.

I think I hear you saying you have $9K in your LP and they go are on Reverb right now for $12K. So the worth is somewhere between $9K and $12K. You have an offer from someone who wants to give you $4.35K and a PRS Studio for the guitar.

If that is the scenario, you will not be getting your $9K from the trade. New Studios go for $4.5K to $5.6K. His isn't new so the price would be quite a bit lower. You can price them on Reverb too. The studio is a great guitar so if you want a player, go for it. If you are looking at this trade as an investment, keep the LP.

If you going to play it , I'm betting the Studio is a better guitar than the LP
Unless the Studio is a wood library you are likely down on value a bit ( $500-1000 ) to your $9000 value

Don’t forget the fees Reverb gets. That $12k doesn’t all go into your pocket. I’m not sure how they process fees on a trade.

thanks everyone. The Prs is brand new in that cool eriza verde green. The les paul is sitting at 12k but it's been there for a while. we decided on doing the transaction through zelle so that covers all the crooked reverb fees. I am leaning on doing the trade

It’s a good trade if it works for you, money value you’re losing out is the consensus but who know how long it’ll take to move on the LP, you may end up discounting it and taking around the same as you’d get out of this trade, check google for used Studio prices . At the end of the day it only matters if you get the deal that you’re happy with.

The studio is a great guitar, but you can find them used for around $2500, even 10 tops...especially with how bad the resale market is right now. My best buddy and bandmate just picked up a 10 top studio in mint condition from 2013 for I think $2400 off facebook marketplace here in Nashville. If I'm you and you're set on parting with the Ness (killer guitar btw) for a PRS, just sell it for cash and go buy one. You're leaving a ton of money on the table with that trade.

I'm also a recent PRS convert, I've had a Silver Sky for a few years but lets be real that's just a strat haha - lifetime Gibson LP player but just got a Hollowbody II piezo a few weeks ago. I did buy it brand new which is counterintuitive to my advice to you haha, but I wasn't passing on this guitar so I bit the bullet. If I had been a little more patient I could've save myself at least a thousand bucks.

I tend to agree.

Sell it buy a used PRS. Given the looks of the Gibby you dont mind a relic, so a mint used PRS should be right up your alley ;-)

Don't do it!!!

I typically don't like signature guitars, I prefer to make them "mine" over time, but the Ness LP is cool in a bottle. The root of the problem seems to be you don't want to play the LP. What good is having a guitar if you're not going to play it? You have a great guitar already, just play it and enjoy it. The Studio shouldn't be a factor in that decision.

If you don't like the way the LP sounds/plays, then ok trade it for something else. Getting back to the deal, I don't see that as a fair trade.
