So many guitars, not enough time

Has anyone else not plugged in a guitar they've had for a while, then said "Dayumn, this thing is awesome!"? I did that tonight when I plugged in my 2007 CE22 with bird inlays. I bought this guitar back in January of 2009. I had heard of PRS and knew they were really out of my league, but I went in to debt for this one. A reward to myself. I hadn't plugged it in for a while since I've been playing with all my new PRS guitars, but I plugged it in tonight and the Dragon IIs sounded so good! And it played and felt so awesome. I really lucked out when I bought this back then!

Every once in a while I think maybe its time to rethink the collection and do a purge like others here have done. Inevitably a few none PRS guitars get the boot but every time I even pick one up out of the case it literally takes a few seconds to realize how important that guitar is to me from a playing/esthetic standpoint. I’m fortunate enough to have a few extra guitars because I want them don’t need them. Nothing against the other brands that I move on from its just that for me discovering and playing PRS is a perfect fit.

Well it isn't that I don't play it, I just hadn't plugged it in in a long time. I play all my guitars often, I just don't plug them in and listen to them through my kemper/amp. I have a habit of just picking up my guitars and playing them unplugged. Or watching 45 min of TV when I'm not working while practicing drills/scales. I know, I really have to plug in a lot more which I am and will work on.

Ya... I do this with some regularity too... When we took shared custody of our autistic grandsons after the rat-bastard son-in-law flew the coop, the first casualty in the home redo was my studio/jam space; it was converted to an indoor play area that meets the needs of identical twin toddlers with a decided lack of judgement regarding self-preservation... Anyway, that meant most of my guitars ended up in their cases in my walk-in closet (now that I'm retired, I don't need suits and dress shoes anymore ;))... so when I do a little rotation and pull one out I haven't seen in a while, there's often a "wow" moment involved while I reacquaint myself with why I loved it enough to keep it in the first place...

I experience this every time I think it is time to thin the collection down and start pulling guitars out of the closet and looking them over. I love the way they look then plug them in to make sure all is still good with with them. I get a quick reminder of why I bought and kept that particular guitar. It then goes back in the case and back into the closet. I am getting a lot more serious about thinning things down now. I have actually made it as far as reversing the mods I did on two guitars and will take them to my local shop soon. Depending on how painful that is, others may follow.

I just picked up a couple more guitars that are on the way. A vela and a Mira 245 soap bar (totally unexpected but it ticked off literally everything I was looking for in my last guitar - for a while anyway) and this puts me at capacity for room. So 14 total guitars. I can’t believe I’m at that level. But I’ve worked hard for many many years. So… time to enjoy them all!!

The Mira 245 Soapbar is a killer guitar. It’s been getting most of my playing attention as of late.

I’m glad you said that since I buying it never having touched it (like all but one of my guitars) but it ticked off everything I wanted. 245 check, standard neck check, soap bars check. Black (don’t have a black guitar) check, birds check.

I just ordered some Wolfetone P90’s for it. I dig the current pickups but wanted a more “raw” sound to it.

OP the CE 22 is one of my favorite PRS ever made...ive been on the lookout for one in good condition for years ....i recently purged a couple of superstrats for a Vela and a non PRS that I'm already thinking is gonna go back due to the fact that I don't need it and don't think I'm going to play it much lol

I absolutely love my 25th Anniversary Mira 245 Soapbar and my Vela. I'm sure you'll be very, very pleased with the both of them.

Thanks to this post I plugged my old 1990 Cust24 workhorse!! Loving it!!

You just have to pull them out and play. In my mind, that's what they are for. At first I thought about scheduling each on to make sure they get equal rotations. But, I realized, I play all of them because I love to play all of them. Not gonna lie, the '76 ES-335 doesn't get as much play, but it has a high sentimental value, since I remember my dad getting it and playing it when I was a kid, then he let me play it a bit when I was a teenager. So, I will play it from time to time.
