Please delete stupid thread, sorry

So you’re not allowed to talk about the band playing at a political event?

Debating whether or not TGP should allow political discussion is it’s own conversation

people acting coy and clueless as to how talking about the RNC and promoting an explicitly right wing news site might be seen as political (to put it lightly) is just silly and disingenuous imo. And yes, same goes if a thread were to be started about a band performing at the DNC

If OP started a thread simply about the band itself and not brought up the RNC or right side news corp there wouldn’t have been an issue. Probably could even get away with saying “saw them at an event I can’t mention here due to forum rules” and still been fine. Probably would’ve sunk pretty fast though 🤷‍♂️

My third account over there just got a week long ban today 😆

This forum is much cooler anyway. The Gear Forum is pretty neat too if your still lookin to talk non-PRS stuff
Three strikes, you're out!

It might be there is a counter on the acronym PRS. Too many mentions of the guitar-that-should-not-be (because it ruins the TGP discussions for best guitar and their reason for being and business model) and you get bencged.

They should tell you why you were banned so you might be able to correct your behavior, but I know from experience they don't. Third ban for seemingly no reason was the charm for me. Never went back.

That's completely understandable but they should tell you the rule you broke and provided the post that broke it. Otherwise, you're just left to wonder and are oblivious as to how to play nice correct your behavior.

AFAIK, I never broke the rules because by the third time especially, I was ***** footing like a maffuker.

They do tell you- but you can't SEE the reason until after your suspension (it's not a ban: a ban is permanent) ends. When the suspension ends and you can again access the page, it'll tell you the reason for your suspension.

It's almost always politics or just being a jerk (like being a direct jerk to an individual poster). The last time I got suspended, someone was goading me about "science" (about how "science is truth" etc), and I finally had enough of his BS and replied "Science huh? How many boosters did you get" and that was all it took LOL. I was suspended for a "provocative" post LOL

I still like TGP, simply because there's a wealth of knowledge and experience over there. I just ignore the tools. And try really hard to ignore anything remotely political, which these days includes the entire covid/vaccine subject. I've noticed no one, anywhere on my various music forums, posted anything about the assassination attempt on former president Trump. I found that quite interesting. I was sure someone would post something vile and distasteful, because they simply can't help themselves. I come to music/gear forums to discuss music/gear, and because of that I quite LIKE the heavy moderation (no politics, religion, drugs, etc), because that's not the purpose of these forums. If you want to talk about those subjects, there are plenty of places online to do so. Please don't soil our beloved music forums with it. That's JMHO.

I do think TDPRI does a better job tho: they simply lock the thread. I don't think there are suspensions over there, they just shut it down and the moderator MIGHT give a warning early in the thread. But they lock it down and it's over. Move along.

Oh, and...TED NUGENT!!!!

TGP is a joke man, c'mon. Your sexist remark about high school girls would be enough for the ban hammer at that dump, ok Ted Nugent?
I once got banned over at TGP for a spelling error. It was a thread about favorite candy bars. I said that I really like Snickers bars because of the “Nougat” and spell check inserted “Nugent” instead. A few minutes later… Ban!!! ;)

That's friggin' ridiculous.... sounds like "Nugent" was banned as a topic over there. Silly.

As a member of TGP since it started (over 20 years ago), I'll throw out this tidbit:

Stay out of "The Pub." THAT'S where 99% of the trouble lives. I've served more than one "un-paid vacation," as well as having received a few warnings. They were all related to threads in that section.

😐

Why the "big F" would you hang out there? Are there not enough knuckleheads where you live?

:p

In the middle of a thread about a guitar model, someone posted a question asking if anyone had one for sale. I posted that I had one listed in their emporium. I received a two week ban for breaking the rules.

Now you see a lot of “I saw one in the emporium ;)“ or “I may know where you can find one:cool:” which seems silly to me.

Gtrbldr - I don't think I've heard that take on TGP before - "why would you hang out there?" It's so NOT what is found in the rest of the on-line world. It's not like social media. TGP makes it a point to not go down the keyboard warrior world that Facebook or X can become. The rules, which all members agree to adhere to, are designed to keep the site as a friendly page.

Also, just for fun, the moderation is essentially self-patrolled. The mods on TGP do not seek out issues - they're reported by the users.

I cannot detemine if this response is sincere or in jest. Mine however was in jest :)

I got dinged once (points off or whatever their scoring system is) for a similar thing. Guy asking where he could find a deal on a used pedal that I had listed in the emporium. I mentioned my listing and got dinged. One other time, I got one for a "buddy bump" of a friends sale ad.

I have flat out busted two different members there for YEARS of lying (one guy LIVED in the amp discussions pages discussing one amp after the other that he owned and he never owned any of them). I still go there some, but wading through the trolls is tiring. And yes, never go in the Pub.

I wasn't. I asked why it wasn't OK to discuss a band that played there. That is not a political discussion unless I make political references to why the band is playing there. If I'm just talking about the band/music, that is not political at all.

Well prior to now, nobody had said any of this, just that he started a thread about a band at the RNC. If he actually was promoting a right wing news site in the thread, then perhaps that would explain why he got pounced on here.

I said "Cool band at the RNC. It looked like the guys was playing a Tom Anderson and going direct. They were really good, good job guys.". Or something very close to that if not exact. So how is that political, because they were playing at the RNC? If we mention playing in church is that now a "Religious" post that gets you an immediate vacation? How many permutations of this are possible? Listen, I get it, people are super sensitive nowadays and I wasn't thinking how someone might get offended by the letters RNC - even though that was merely the venue. So why not just lock the thread and send a warning or whatever? Insta-banning a long time supporting member for something like that is way over the top IMO. Anyway, I wish I could delete this thread. It is all so stupid and serves no purpose other than for people to argue their point of view.

I don't think anyone was "offended" and personally, no I don't think you should have been banned (but, TGP is a private forum and the rules are the rules and its well known that they're pretty strict on politics so it is what it is)

But yes posting about the RNC is absolutely inherently political. Pretending that its not is pretty mind boggling to me

And yes, I do think that promoting RSBN was probably the kicker there...

I really don't appreciate the accusation that I was somehow covertly promoting something political. Please show me where I promoted RSBN. And even if I did mention it (which I don't think I did), why is the mere mention of it "political"? Because of their audience? That is completely absurd and akin to racism if you ask me. Are we now vilifying a group of people based on what TV station they watch? Holy crap is this insane.

The thread is nuked but yes you were definitely promoting RSBN in that OP. Who is vilifying you? Are we now pretending that RSBN -isn't- an explicitly right wing news outlet? (I am not saying that is a bad or good thing, just the fact that it is...)

What is actually insane pretending that talking about the RNC and RSBN isn't political, and then doubling down and calling it "akin to racism" to observe that there is no way to make that not political...
