I am upgrading the electronics and pickups in my se 245 this weekend and I am positive that my daughter will want me to do her single cut korina next. I will obviously have the se 245 pickups available as well as the ones that came in the korina. I am not opposed to swapping magnets in the ones that will be on hand or putting a new set in. Maybe replace the wire with shielded? Of course I could just slap some covers on one of the sets and call it a day too. This is the only korina guitar I have any experience with so no idea what to do with it other than pots, switch, and jack.

This will be playing mainly rock. 80's-modern and maybe some heavy rock/light metal(is that a thing?). Output doesn't matter. I can get all I want out of the amp/pedals and I like the clarity and character of lower output anyway.

Lets just shoot some idea's out there. In the house currently we have an american standard strat from the late 90's with stock pickups, epi lp with probuckers, G&L tribute asat deluxe semi hollow with jumbo mfd pickups, and my 245 which is getting a set of unpotted paff clones with 8.8k in the bridge. We all play all the guitars but this korina is well suited for her due to its extreme light weight.

I have Dragon 1s in my Korina SC. They were in it when I got it. I added coil taps switches and I like it. You can get a multitude of sounds by selecting pup and coil taps. Add to that tone control on the guitar and I don't even mess with the amp settings. So I'm suggesting pups that are set up for coil taps.

If I buy new pups for it I will be doing push/pull on both pots and doing coil split on one and out of phase on the other I think. Maybe go with the toggle for the splits so I can split them individually... That's not a bad idea.

What pickups are you putting in the 245 that you are doing this weekend? That would be interesting to know.

I have heard that the Seymour Duncan Custom Custom makes a great bridge pickup, along with a '59 neck.

I like Gibson '57 Classic/Classic Plus pickups. Gibson makes some wonderful pickups. You have to pay for them but they are worth every penny. For a more modern sound the Gibson Burstbucker Pro's sound really good, very powerful and clear.

The pickups I got came from jonesyblues.com. They are a period correct a4 paf close that is unpotted and wound by Tom Brantley. Tom worked for Fralin for almost 20 years I guess and then did pickup design for mojotone before starting his own rewind company. They were just a few dollars more than a 36th anniversary set so figured I'd give them a shot since the Fralin pickups tend to get stellar reviews. He built the wiring harness for me as well. It is 4x cts 550k pots with the mojotones vitamin t pio caps. I added a switchcraft switch and jack as well.

I put push pull coil taps in it at first. I didn't care for it. The knobs stick way up when pulled. I like the toggles and can switch them individually. I find I use the tap on the neck and full humbucker on the bridge allot.

Good call
