In my continuing quest to have solid black pickups in this 2020 Standard.

I have 2 sets of new take outs to chose from.
A set from an S2 Mira
A set of TCIs from a 24-08

Of the 3 sets including the 85/15s currently installed.
What would be the better choice?

I'm perfectly fine leaving the zebra pair in, if it would be a mistake to use any of the black pairs I have. Infant level player, just FYI.

Thanks in advance.

Do you like how it sounds with the current pickups? If you like the sound now, I’d keep things how they are and continue to rock. If you have to change them to get the pickups all black, the TCI would give you the closest experience to the current 85/15s.

Thanks for that. This is what I suspected.
As far as liking the sound. I'm just learning how to play.

I should have asked from hardware knowledgeable if any of the black pairs I have would be considered a downgrade from the 85/15s in the guitar now. Any other pickup will be different, but I guess better or worse is up to the ear of the player.

Put in the set from the 24-08, add the black hardware, and enjoy the guitar your way. The pickups won’t be a step down, and it’ll look like you want. And if a guitar looks the part, you’ll dig playing it more. There’s an entire market of “relic” guitars to prove that. Make it your own, and play it a lot!

I think Rick is right with making it your own. After more thought, I’m not sure the sounds would be much different if you went TCI from a 24-08 over your current 85/15s. You might be able to have the tone you like now and the look you want.
