I have loved PRS for years, been a player on and off, and recently [finally] switched to exclusively PRS.
I have often disliked the look of pickup rings and wondered if a direct mount would work. Anybody on here have experience or advice for whether doing so is even possible?

For that to turn out right I am thinking you would need to have something custom built. If you simply removed the pickup rings you would have the 4 holes exposed where the screws mount the rings to the body. Additionally you would have to mount the pickups direct into the pickup cavity and that would require a new hole to do so. Not sure how that would effect ability for pickup height changes and how far you could go up or down.

On a side note, I do think it would look really cool.

I had a Gibson pickup in my McCarty for a short while. Legs were too long to mount it in the rings.

I used super tiny wood screws that would fit through the threaded holes on pickup legs. The legs would rest on the wood at the bottom of the cavity and that was the only height choice I had.

Now this McCarty was a gift from my wife so its a forever guitar and the holes were so small that you probably wouldn't notice them unless I pointed them out.

Hope this helps

Thanks for the feedback guys!
In taking a suggestion from another post (I think it was a PRS player on another forum) who suggested looking for a pickup cavity "plug" on Etsy, I may look into stained flamed maple pickup rings - seems the most direct, inexpensive, and effective solution to my (very first world, solely aesthetic) "problem."
