Picked Up An Interesting Mic

Perfect! As I expected, it has several features I really like!! I will have to hold off on that though based on the price (I get it, but I can't get it at the moment)!!! Thanks for the info and links ;~)) I shall survive for now with my weighted boom gator stand (5lb weight on back end of boom), but I won't be doing any pull ups on it.
If I wasn’t making a buck with this stuff I would absolutely spend the money on something else instead!

If you’re using a mic stand every day, and you’re putting expensive mics up, and you need something flexible because it’s hard to predict what you might need at the last minute, these are a smart buy.

F’rinstance, when I do the orchestral recording, I’m going to be putting a stereo pair of Neumann LDCs on a stereo bar pretty high up toward the ceiling. It’s that kind of thing that makes me relieved to have a stand that can handle anything I throw at it.

I use a calibrated, machined aluminum stereo mic space bar from Grace Design to get all the angles and measurements precise. There’s absolutely no point in having a matched pair of mics to record in stereo, only to get the angles and measurements not quite right. The phase issues make the whole exercise pointless.

My insanity requires extreme attention to detail in all phases of the game!

“Will anyone ever buy your orchestral recordings once you get them done, Les?”

“F#ck no. No one will ever listen to them. It’s going to be a complete waste of time.”

“Then why bother?”

“I’m not doing it for anyone else. I’m doing it for myself.”

“That’s madness.”

“Sure is. Welcome to the monkey house.”

I currently have my Rode NTR hanging from the ceiling via a pair of bungee cords (we have exposed beams, unfancy, so I just put a couple of screw hooks up there - 3rd screw hook on nearby wall to store it out of the way). Big drawback is, can't really move it other than height, but it works for now in my daily routine. I use my weighted Gator stand as my cajon mic stand which holds an SM7B. I will get one of those eventually though, week boom hold is one of my biggest pet peaves about mic stands! Thanks again for the info and inspiration ;~))

The NTR weighs quite a bit.

I wouldn’t store a ribbon mic by hanging it on a wall. The ribbons can be damaged even by a puff of wind from opening or closing a door, and they’re very sensitive to humidity and dust. Anything that builds up on the ribbon compromises and degrades its performance because the ribbon element is so thin.

It’s not my mic, of course, but it’s also a very good and not-cheap mic! Why put it at risk for damage?

When I have my condenser mics out on a stand, even during a break, I cover the mic with a MicSentry lint-free cover. The only reason the mic isn’t covered in that pic was to, obviously, show the mic. It went back into the cover right after.

Thanks for the advice and I understand it, but mic is staying where it is for now (I do use the shipping set screw before storing it each night) ;~)) Not going to pollute your thread with my logic, but that is how I funna' roll for now.

@László I have been purposely avoiding this thread because of what I was afraid might happen.

Well, it's even worse, now I want one of those amazing mic stands too.

I don't need it. my Atlas is more than enough for what I do and the amount of space I have, but ... dang, there's something to be said for buying the best tools.

Congrats on the new mic! Sounds (lol) like you have found something pretty special in this!

It’s a great mic stand. And evidently, it’s also a gym stand, if you’re into pull-ups!

It’s two! Two! Two stands in one! 😂
