Photos, let's see 'em

While I was down Calgary way racing (whole other story there) I had the chance to hook up with my oh so fabulous camera gal Anett. She does most of the action shoots on the racetrack gigs I go to. Originally she had a more secluded and scenic session in the foothills with the mountains for background but the weather sort of nixed that idea, so we wandered around down by the river and shot some pics in as much of a natural setting as we could manage. She hasn't had a chance to finalize the package for me yet, but did send me a couple teasers to play with. Of course I had to bring the SE Custom (I have a small belt-clip portable amp that sort of works so at least I can hear what I'm playing) and I took my FGX800C acoustic as well; I apologize for having a (cough) Yamaha in the shots here, but it's still a nice sounding guitar. The tiny amp made More Than A Feeling sound terribly thin on the SE, and I gave up on anything a bit raunchier, but Shine On The Moon and Wonderful Tonight rang out pretty well under the bridge on the FG. Some of the folks fly fishing got kind of a kick out of it anyway haha. Anett loved the raw captures she got and enjoyed the songs. I think I surprised her with the vocal on Wonderful Tonight, I know I was pleased with how it came out in spite of the traffic noise from above.
Never done anything remotely similar to that before, typically just small indoor/outdoor gatherings and backyard/deck stuff, and never for a photo shoot. Was fun though

I can see how that day would not have done well with mountain backgrounds! Never the less, all 3 shots are really good!! Great to see the forum members in the wild!!! Thanks for sharing!!!! Maybe next shoot, we can get a pic of you on bike (moving of course) while playing guitar (disclaimer - I didn't say that - if you get hurt, it is not my fault)!!!!!

If I had a more modern bike I could almost do that, all the electronics and ride assists haha. I have been known to emulate AC/DC vocals in my helmet at times though....Monday actually. A rider on his first lap blew a head gasket and his bike puked glycol and oil all over the track right on the race line. It was raining and I thought my tires were crap. Recreational tack guys seldom change out their antifreeze for distilled water or non-glycol coolant like us race types are regulated to doing, for that very reason. Talk about a puckering experience riding into that mess in a downhill off camber corner!

Some race track action from the last couple adventures. On the Edmonton tracks I can use my Yoshimura pipes, but at RMM north of Calgary I had to mount my stock system back on the bike. In hindsight, I likely would have passed the dB limit max, but I wasn't about to lode 3 days riding over it. The photo with my left hand out is to signal other riders coming up behind that I'm slowing down so they don't accidentally run up behind a rider that is traveling at less than race speed. Most track/race prepped bikes do not have a brake light (mine does) so it's purely visual cue or a hand signal. Also applies to a hazard on the track in case a following rider misses at track warning light or a marshal's flag signal. Hand goes out before slowing down, not after! In this case I was preparing to exit the track at the end of our hot laps.

Great pics Daryl.

Postimage or Imgur are your friend.

Killer pix Daryl! I did not see on your bike though, any PRS stickers!! Don't know if that is intentional or simply an oversight ;~)) I think you can use the dropbox photos, but it just takes a little more digging to find the right URL to post. Here is an example:

p.jpeg

What I did was, I right mouse clicked on the image (not sure if you are on Apple or Win, or what Apple equivalent would be but I think it is Apple Key + click), I chose "Inspect". Once I am in the inspection window, I find the "<img . . . src="https://xxxxx.xxx.com/xxx.jpg" (this is the source of the image being displayed). I highlight that bit (src image path), and then copy it. Come over here to the image icon in the post composition window and paste it in! Let me know if you need any more instructions on that process, happy to help!!!

Shiny side up Brother!

Nice!

Most of my time on track, the lights were taped - so no annoying little bits stayed on the track after a crash.

The riders that bring street bikes to recreational track days have to remove or tape the mirrors and any other glass/lights surfaces. Most headlights have a plastic lens now though. License plates must be removed as well. Race prepped bikes don't use glycol based coolant, which is a good thing in a failure thing like happened Monday. Glycol is worse than oil when it spills. I run Engine Ice, and Water Wetter is also popular. Serious competitors use straight distilled water in the cooling systems. I can't be arsed draining it that often, and I can't trust the winter temps for storage with a non a/f coolant. Mine is only good to about zero F but in the attached garage it's fine. If I wanted to store the bike in the outside garage, I'd have to go to a standard 50/50 mix but then I wouldn't be compliant on the track in my class.

Visited my favorite farm ponds today.

The good news:

I caught these two nice ones with a top water popper in the “small middle” pond. I was surprised these fish were in this tiny pond which is about 80 feet wide and 150 feet long. Always a catch and release bass fisherman, I threw them both in the large pond so they can grow even larger:

The bad news:

I had a monster on in the big pond. It hit a TON, and my stiff bass rod (skip the corny jokes) bent like crazy. I have #8 braided line and this fish pulled the drag like crazy. It broke the surface twice, and it dwarfed these previous 2 fish. It dove into extremely heavy weeds, and with my inability to keep my line taught, it threw my lure. I’m confident this fish was closer to 10 lbs than 5, and I have no doubt I lost the biggest bass I’ve ever hooked. :(
The good news? I know where he lives.

Nice ones!

Big bass and 8lb line in cover is not a good match. :( Go back with something bigger and get him.

Actually, braided line is MUCH stronger than monofilament.
I have a bunch of braid. None that small though. But it has no stretch, so your whole rig and technique have to be adapted. I've snapped 30lb braid on a hookset with a reel that only has 14 lbs drag and wasn't locked down. Last week, I accidentally cast while my line was wrapped around my rod tip (very easy to do with braid) and broke 30 lb braid on the cast with a 1/2 oz. lure. Luckily, it was a floating grass frog and I was able to retrieve it.

And yes, I tie good knots. LOL

I love it for some stuff, but it's VERY different to fish with.
