Hi folks,

I want to purchase some gold phase 3's to put on my old 2006 Singlecut with the vintage kluson style tuners. I have read on here that the phase 3's will directly retrofit, but I just wanted to make sure before I ordered.

Cheers!

You will need to countersink the pegholes - just slightly on the front, more so on the back. You will also need to drill new mounting screw holes. Not difficult.

They countersink in order to ensure metal-to-wood contact. Also, the tuner body has ring that prevents it from sitting flush unless the hole is countersunk. In the images you can see the front and back of the headstock and how the countersink differs in depth. There is also a screengrab from a recent PRS 'From the Factory Floor' video showing the countersinking of the headstock. As for the countersink bit, I recommend the StewMac 'No Chip' Tuner Hole Countersink Bit (https://www.stewmac.com/luthier-too...ols/drill-bits/no-chip-tuner-hole-countersink)
