I need a 14.5" X 30" pedalboard.

I am looking at the Pedaltrain Novo 32 or the Blackbird 1530HC. I've narrowed it to one of these two because they seem durable and they have a hard-case option (which I want). Before I go hunting for a good price on either one, are there any worthwhile options I may be overlooking?

Must be able to accommodate a Voodoo Labs Mondo!

I have been happy with my Furman board for a lot of years now. It's extremely sturdy, and I've had no electrical gremlins. I did replace the velcro "floor" with better stuff-now no pedal is going to slip away lol. I don't even know if they are still making boards to be honest.

I would go Blackbird, even though this is the first I've heard of that brand. I have a Pedaltrain PT-II, but don't particularly like it. The gaps between the rails on Pedaltrain boards are too big, which makes it difficult and sometimes impossible to mount pedals the way you want. For example, your EP Booster would have to be right on the edge even with the bottom of the wah and tuner.

One of these days I'll sell it in favor of something with more deck space.

Tough call. I like the looks of the Blackbird simply because there aren't rails. Not sure if I would like just the 4 holes for routing wires though. I've got 2 different Pedaltrains that work well. I have no real complaints on either of them. On the smaller, I had a space requirement for where it goes, so I had to go smaller on the width. That made things a little crowded. Granted, I don't really need all of the OD pedals on there, but it beat having them in a drawer somewhere.

This is the Novo 18 with a Voodoo Labs 4x4

and this is the Classic 24. I have the Mondo on this one.

Hanso, I love my pedaltrain pro with the ata style case. The board itself is super light which is awesome for large boards. The case is super rugged and sturdy. Not sure if it's actually ATA or not as they don't specify but it's EXTREMELY sturdy. The wheels on one end are great for pulling it around. 100% recommend.

Damn, that's gonna be one heavy pedalboard.

Pedaltrains aren't exactly light, either. Once you load it with pedals in the road case, it's pretty beastly. I have an MDF board that's quite a bit lighter.

Hans, I'm loving those Blackbird boards. I think I might get one of the raw ones and finish it myself.

Check out the PedalPad website Look at their AXIS III Hard board and hinged case cover with built in inputs.outputs and 110V outlet plug. Plenty of room underneath for power supplies. Love mine.

I love my Pedaltrains...but in their heavy duty case, they are a bit weighty...but the pedals do stay safe. Look at 'em all. I had a blast setting up my pedals. (Ok, and continue to switch n swap them around) You're never really done, even when you say your done, right, Les??

I suggest Temple Boards.
I'm moving to this board, personally I like the big ones. Can't wait.

Currently.

Notice the awesome input jacks.

If you go the Pedal Train route, consider a case alternative...the Mono Pedalboard case. Otherwise, I totally love the solid board version of the Furman/SKB powered pedalboards. Not quite the size you stipulated, though.

I'd look at the custom route via either the guy Les used or where Chris Reynolds got his.

I really like the pedal train boards, and I second the mono case recommendation. I also agree that on the old style pedal trains, pedals like an ep booster can be a bit more challenging to fit, but I haven't had any issues using them on there. I think recent boards may have narrower spacing.

The question that should be asked, is why do you want a hard case, Hans? What do you want to be able to do with it?
I got mine so I can throw it in the trailer and not worry about it. My rack or my bass players Ampeg 8x10 could fall on it and it'll be fine. Granted, nothing moves the way it's loaded, but it generally has a bunch of stuff stacked on top.

You're a brave man, Vaughn! I would only put empty cases in the trailer. The PA rack alone would crush just about anything.

I want the hard case for the same reason you got yours, Vaughn. Plus, I'll be shipping it back over the Atlantic sooner or later.

I got a board built into a hard case simply because I thought it was a cool looking thing. When clients come over I generally pack up my pedalboard and get it out of the way so I can move chairs near the workstation. A soft case would be a bit lighter, probably smarter, but...decor is cool. ;)

Kinda like having a nice hard case for your guitars, instead of a gig bag.

With the top on:

Les, exactly what make/model are your 1/4" plugs and where did you get them...if you don't mind my asking. (I need to stock up)

They're G&H plugs. I ordered the cables pre-assembled with them from Lava Cable. You can get them in a variety of colors from Lava or direct from Abbatron, and with 4 different sized exit holes for the cables, so they fit any cable.

They're very high quality plugs; I was going to order my cables with Neutrik, but Lava told me that they'd switched to G&H because the failure rate was zero, and they'd had some issues with the Neutriks failing for customers. They felt any failures were unacceptable. I agree.
