PC speaker recommendation

I know it's a shame, but I spend less and less time with my guitars plugged to my real amps and more and more time plugged to my audio interface using my audio plugins, software and whatnot. And I have just realized that I have never properly updated my PC speakers...I use some run of the mill Logitech ones that came with the PC (originally just for gaming and playing music) and I think it's time for an upgrade.

Any recommendation?

I do not need anything stunningly professional...I'm not not going to mass produce records: just playing guitar and making some recordings for private use.

I've got a pair of Yamaha HS5 powered studio monitors hooked up to my PC. I've had them for several years, and really like them. I've also had a pair of Berhinger Truth monitors that were really good.

Quite a few pros are into the Kali Audio monitors. They're very inexpensive.

The caveat is that I haven't tried them, so this isn't a 'buy' recommendation, just a 'you might want to check them out' suggestion.

This is a topic that comes up all the time on the bigger forums. Here's one from a few days ago on the Fractal forum. There are LOTs of other monitor threads on the Fractal forum alone let alone other forums like TGP.

There are a bunch of good monitors and you'll find guys happy with each brand. In approximate order of increasing price: M-Audio, Behringer, Presonus Eris, Kali Audio, Yamaha, Adam, Focal, Genelec. I've personally considered all of the last 5 brands I listed and all of them would be a step up from what you have now.

For just guitar you don't need woofers bigger than 5" (maybe 6.5") and the more you spend the better they'll sound. I had Presonus Eris monitors which were a step up from my good stereo loudspeakers and eventually got the smallest Genelecs which are awesome and the pair cost less than a new PRS SE. A friend of mine with M-Audio was blown away by the transparency & imaging of the Genelecs.

And once you start getting monitors in this range you also need to be aware of the importance of room treatment, or AT VERY LEAST speaker placement, like up on stands for near-field monitors. This often makes more difference than the monitors themselves.

May I Suggest Plugging Into Your Real Amps More While You Try To Decide Which Direction To Go. :) They Will Sound Nice And Since You Haven't Been Doing That It Will Seem Like You Just Got Some Cool New Stuff And Saved Money On Your Car Insurance. ;)

There Are A Lot Of Nice Choices Available. It Comes Down To What You Like And Want To Spend Really. Barefoot Makes Nice Stuff As Does The other Companies Already Mentioned. They Key Is Getting Something You Can Work With And Can Know/Trust Sonically So Your Working In The Right Direction.
