P90's in a McCarty?

maybe, just maybe i'm becoming a convert to p90s. Historically I have never enjoyed the ice pick sound of soap bars and associated all P90s with that distasteful sound. But an enabler friend of mine made me play a chibson he recently converted to Phat Cats and i am very intrigued. Has anyone installed P90s in a McCarty? Level of difficulty? Sonic success?

PRS has put them in a McCartys for years. They are affectionately known as McSoapies, and they sound amazing. Phat Cat's would likely sound great as well.

sorry, i should have mentioned that I owned a mcsoapy years ago but I'm not talking about them. I'm looking at an aftermarket P90s such as a Seymour Duncan Phat Cat going into a regular McCarty

i also should add that i'm playing the snot out of my NF53 which is fueling my acceptance of P90s as not always being icepicks in my ears

Mc Soapies rock! If you want a PAF sized I suggest Harmonic Designs Z90 , hand made ..and they take a while but AWESOME.

I went through a big humbucker P90 phase. The Fralin were my favorites by a large margin. The phat cats were ok, and I still have that set, but wouldn't call them P90. Maybe part of the reason you liked them compared to traditional P90?

Almost went with Fralin, who as @SinSir noted makes a humbucker sized P-90, in this SE245, but ultimately went with a vintage Gibson:

Like @Brad Lawson I have a 594 soapy, and I gotta say it is a killer axe, so a thumbs up for the SD Antiquity...
Done lots of gigs and band practices with just that guitar and it rocks...
