So I'm interested in a couple of unobtaniums out there in the wild. A 2012 core Starla or a 2012 NOS P22 with the 53/10 pickups. Can anyone give me some insight on how the 53/10's compare to the 58/15LT's in a 594?
Did I mention that my wife's name is Starla?

I had a p22 artist with 53/10s and I just couldn't get into them. Since you put a 59/09 in your PS 594 because you wanted higher output, you may not like the 53/10s either. I probably should have put in \m/ pickups in my p22 before selling but oh well. I much prefer the shorter scale guitars now anyway. Have you tried a DGT? Man I miss my DGT, it could do everything so well.

I have no experience with a Starla but I think you should grab one for the name alone!

I have not tried a DGT, but I've always wanted to. Unfortunately the closest dealer to me is a 3-4 hour drive, so I don't get to check out much stuff in person. Doesn't it have really tall frets? I play a lot of slide and use multiple open and dropped tunings. The 594 frets work for me though if they're similar to it.

The Starla namesake has been haunting me for years! I'm gonna have to have one at some point.

I am not sure about the DGT frets, you may be right. So I was thinking, something you may like is a singlecut P245. It has regular frets, piezo and its a singlecut!

I will start doing some research on those! Thanks! An actual purchase depends on if/when I'm able to sell the PS. If I go the SC route though, it may be hard to pass on a SC 594. Pete sure likes them! Haha!

In regards to the 53/10's, I can't compare them to the 58/15LT's but I personally like them. They are definitely lower output than the 57/08's and 59/09's. I have the 53/10's in a SC58 and the bridge pup has a nice single coil like crispness while the neck is very warm. I also have a core Starla and really like the pups in it. They remind me a lot of 57/08's but with a bit more sparkle on the top end. They also have a little more output to my ears than the 57/08's but aren't quite as hot as 59/09's, definitely more than 53/10's. Of course there's a scale difference between the Starla and the P22, being that it's only 24.5.

IMHO, you NEED a Starla, if for no other reason than it's your wife's namesake. Then you should get a P22, DGT, SC594, et al.

I like the way you think! Now... anyone need a kidney?

I have a Starla :) and have played a P24 ( I have a few 22 fret PRS )
My Starla is my only Single Cut PRS at the moment and it is a great guitar similar vibe to an SG for me thin body and great upper fret access for a short scale single cut.
I don't know anything 53/10s but the P22 as with any PRS should be killer ( the Piezo is fun ;) )

The Starla is an absolute tone monster.

53/10s are crazy great too but if I could only have one PRS it would be the Starla. It's just astonishingly good.

Can you post a pic of your's form your avatar? That ought to get the ball rolling towards a Starla purchase!

Okiedokie! The two Starlas I still own are thus - first, a Private Stock with a quilted maple top and an ebony fretboard...

And this one, one of the last ones ever built on the Core line, with a solid East Indian Rosewood neck -

Have also owned an O.G. Core Starla with the 'hog neck and dot inlays, and an S2 variant as well. The first one I sold on to finance the EIR-necked version, and the S2 I moved on as it just never got played because of the two above, despite being a cool guitar and actually different enough from the originals to be unique.

I have a core Starla stoptail and it is probably the guitar I would pick if there could only be one. It sounds so clear without being shrill, and so full without being muddy. Mmmmm I'm gonna go play it......

Wow! Those are killer!

I'm pretty much gonna have to buy one if I can ever find an 08 in the wild. That's the year we were married.

I love both of these and can never get enough of the one with the rosewood neck. Such a rarity.
