So if you don't know - the PTC offers a push/pull tone pot mod for the P22. With the stock setup you can only get Humbucker or Humbucker WITH a single coil. With this mod, when you pull up the tone pot, you get JUST single coils - Bridge, Both, Neck.

Okay, still maybe in the "Honeymoon" but my first impression was I may NEVER push the pot back in! It's single coil and I can cover the stuff I liked to do with my Tele! But it’s a bit better than my Tele - the top end is a bit warmer, there is still bite when you dig in but never that brittle "Ice pick in the ear". It sort of takes care of the reason you'd use a compressor - if that makes sense?

This is all bridge, I've played with the neck a bit and it's good too.

I was playing a bunch of stuff today at lunch - LOW, Mary Jane and a few others - Single coil was great. Then I played a song I'm just working up "Cheap Sunglasses" - I liked the Humbucker for that - more complexity and more depth.

Very useful mod for me. It gives me another "essential" tone out of the same guitar!

I agree with something Hans saild in another post " the "53/10's" are my favorite Single coil tone" ;)

hmmm! Did you have to send it in to PTC to get it modded or can a person have it done by a tech locally. like the idea of that added versatility.

And I'll add what I always say about 53/10's......They're among the best sounding pickups (if not THE best) ever to come out of PRS. Hope they find a way to keep on making them.

Thanks for the tip on that mod Rango. I may have to go visit the PTC with mine.

No down side ;) You get all the tones you had on tap PLUS the single coil stuff. :D

Yes, I was / am very interested in having this mod performed, both on P22 and Cu24 - Been too busy spending money on other new stuff to focus.

Not sure I'd be as happy with the 59/09s, but I'm sure I'd still dig it...

I wouldn't want to risk that...

When you know the other option will be pristine.

I had no issues adding a push pull volume control to my Cu22 and was able to keep it very clean.

Not saying Skitchy doesn't do good work, just saying it's not hard to do.

oh I agree that PTC would do excellent work, I just did not know if the mod was something that could be done by a decent tech or was there something that PTC had to tweek to get it to work.

That's good to know. I'm gassing for a P22 and the option to make it even more versatile makes it more difficult to resist

Well, I too can make a soldering iron sing and dance for far too many decades than I'd care to admit.

Yet we're not talking about a TV or a Heath-Kit (if you know what I mean).

...and that is meant as anything other than snotty.

Photo of internals and/or wiring diagram please!

Ah and there is the question! Skitchy figured is out and as far as I know he hasn't published the mod. I'm going to guess there is a bit more to it than just soldering a couple of leads...likely not FM,]. There's a preamp in there and between the five way and the 3 way that are on the guitar STOCK - adding an additional switch in the push pull pot - in could get interesting.

I don't know how much that preamp is and I don't want to find out. ;)

It does sound FANTASTIC. :D I picked up a used Victoria 5112 amp last week off TGP and was checking it out yesterday afternoon.... It's wild - Single coil playing "Mary Jane's last dance" then pushing in the pot, turning the Vicky to the stop ( you can do that with 5 watts!) and playing "Dirty Deeds" - Guitar, Amp, cable.... no pedals required!

^^ Probably...But who are you going to trust more? Yourself (who could very well be great with an iron and DIY's) or the dudes that made the guitar from scratch? Not to mention I'm pretty sure if they messed up it'd be on them to fix it.
Maybe I don't have a worthy opinion because I don't trust myself with an iron on my PRS, but you couldn't ask for better post-work than from the PTC.
