Original PRS Studio...

Hello,

I currently own a an S2 CU24, and I'm looking to upgrade. I recently noticed a used original Studio at my music store, and when I played it, I absolutely loved it! And it's at a very affordable price. I would have bought it right there but it's much different than what I've been looking for and I wanted to learn more about it before buying.

I've never really looked into the Studios before and I'm wondering what the story is on them. There's not much clear info online, so if anyone here could tell me what they like/don't like about them, why they're worth it etc. Would greatly appreciate it!

STUDIO: 1988 - 1991. Specs similar to the Special but with standard neck profile, Hot Vintage Treble pickup and two PRS single-coils. The studio’s single/single/hum pickup configuration was offered as an option until 1997.
So here's the special:
SPECIAL: 1988 - 1991. Developed for the ‘hard rock/metal player’, wide-thin neck, trem-up routing for a full tone up, volume and tone controls with 5 way rotary, HFS Treble pickup, PRS single coil in middle, HFS Bass pickup (changed to Vintage Bass humbucker by 1989).

Really doesn't matter what the history is ... "absolutely loved it"... "very affordable price" ... You should have it already!

I have a 91 Studio, I find the only thing I dislike is the pickup selector is a 5 way. Like the original 5 way, it's a bit of a pain. The HSS setup works well, but I think I'd like a coil split. Half of me wants to a 6 way selector to get Tele sounds etc. This would replace the p/u selector and would look like the standard 3 way.

Just interested to know, all the studios I see on eBay have what looks like NF pickups, was that something that happened later on in production?

The late 80's - early 90's Studios had Strat-style singlecoils. Then the model disappeared until about 2010 when it was re-introduced with the Narrowfield pickups. Ran for a few years, then got dropped again.
