I have heard of this band, but never heard their music before until today.
I was on my Sony Blu-Ray box watching NAMM YouTube videos when I decided to check out another video section on the box called "The Moshcam."

Full length concert videos of different genres, and I scrolled down to the metal area, and I saw Opeth in there from a Sydney tour they did earlier to play some of their older stuff, and new songs from their latest 10th studio album.

I remember seeing Paul mention in one of the SE Custom 24 videos that Opeth uses SE guitars live for gigging, and sure enough Fredrik Åkesson and Mike Åkerfeldt were both using what looked like their signature SE models.
Nice to see them actually using the SE models live during a two hour performance.

Their music is pretty good, reminds me of other prog bands I have heard.

I almost fell off the chair when I took my first peak at their 20th anniversary gig, played at the Royal Albert Hall in London, and saw the "SE" letters on the head of Mikael's guitar. Though I think he had Seymour-Duncan pickups at the time.

He played his SE sig for just about one third of the gig, for the rest of it he kept changing his guitars a lot, often during a song (did he keep braking strings?), so it felt a little like a PRS exhibition on its own ;) I think Frederik played only one guitar through the whole gig....

PS. In the "Porcelain Heart" music video, Frederik plays SE Tremonti. Having two signature artists one of which is playing a model of a third signature artist is what I call a "signature orgy" :D

I think it shows how great the SE guitars really are if a huge group like them is using them.
I am sure they could be using a $2.5K Gibson Les Paul Standard Plus, or a more expensive PRS LP shaped guitar, but nope, they are chugging away on the SEs, and they sound darn nice.

I will have to check out that video you mentioned.

I cannot agree more, in fact, that was the very thing that made me buy my Tremonti SE - Opeth playing PRS along with the rumour that some guitar magazine compared the Maryland made Tremonti with SE Tremonti and couldn't find any significant difference...

Make sure to check it out. Mikael stated (in the video) that it was the first time that death metal vocals were to be heard at that venue :)
