Oof! I seriously f**ked up my right hand.

Gawd damn.. that sucks. With a thread title like that, as soon as I read, "I was washing dishes last night, broke a plate," I gasped and shivered because I guessed what was coming.

Clearly you found a way to type, so we can still see you around these parts; but it's the actual "no guitar playing" (which we know is more important than internet chatting) that sucks worse. Not to mention the straight-up pain and aggravations that you're dealing with now in everyday life.

Sending positive vibes your way for a speedy & complete recovery.
Yeah! I can type with one finger if I hold the phone in my dead hand.

And I was just going to send you a link on ARTE about 1980's Italian Disco. Well, I still will .... it may make you feel better that you weren't part of that scene.

Don't skip on any physical rehab they give you, bro ..

This looks fascinating

I was washing dishes last night, broke a plate, and put a deep @ss gash into the meaty palm area of my thumb on my right hand.

Blood everywhere , ER, X-rays, five stitches, maybe some tendon damage, and god yeah, it hurts.

No guitar, no driving, no Rosy Palm and her four friends, no video games, no keyboards… I’m wrecked. Thank goodness I made the switch to bidets (y’all gotta go there if you haven’t) because my technique of wiping with the left is… let’s say; flawed.

Man, dunno how lucky I’ve been all these years without wrecking my mitts before.

I guess I’m gonna catch up on TV (I need to buy a left handed remote control) until this heals and I go to a hand specialist.

I’ll spare you the horror show pictures, because @Lola ’s husband’s feet has significantly traumatized us for the year.

But yeah, I’mma Sad Serge. I hope I can hold a pick again.
That totally sucks. I have a suggestion, if you want to make sure everything's going to be OK.

See a good hand surgeon to evaluate the extent of the damage before problems develop. Yes, it needs to be a specialist, here's why.:
When I had nerve damage on my left hand, and my fingers literally ceased to operate, I was told by several doctors - including after having had a CT scan - that it was diabetic neuropathy, and nothing at all could be done. Too bad about the hand, said they.

I was devastated, but didn't want to just give up.

So I went to a physical medicine specialist who'd treated my sciatica problem successfully, because I wasn't just going to sit there and do nothing. He did some nerve conduction tests and said, "I think the folks who've evaluated it could be wrong. I'm going to refer you to a hand surgeon who works on the pro teams' athletes when they have hand injuries, a very highly regarded doc."

Turns out, the surgeon was an acquaintance, small world and all that - I knew he was a doc, but didn't know he was a hand surgeon.

Anyway, I went to see him, and after some tests and X-rays he said, "I'm 99% sure you have a pinched ulnar nerve that's causing this, and I think we can fix it."

So he did some surgery and saved my left hand. I still have some numbness, but the fingers work Had I waited much longer, it may not have been as successful.

Every time I see him at one of the arts events in town we both bump into each other at, he gets a man-hug. Point is, early evaluation could be important.

Not sure if it will help (you could make the same mistake again), but I have a time machine I have been piecing together! Still needs some work (the duct tape is coming loose in a few spots and I need to get a new vice grip for the emergency exit door handle) for long time travel, but I am pretty sure we can get you back 24 hours with at least 90% of your body parts and 65% of your brain functions 100% intact!! Let me know if you want to give it a go!!! If not, stay strong, live long and cease and desist on all physically destructive activities (unless you really like them, and doing dishes ain't mopping so I am certain it is further down on your list of must do's)!!!!

Mr Peabody to the rescue!

Whoa, that's terrible. I hope everything is all good in the long run.

About 20 years ago my father cut his index finger on a sharp pipe he was halving with a hacksaw. Didn't go to the doctor for like a week. He severed a tendon but since he waited so long to see the doctor they told him there was nothing they could do to fix it. Not sure of the exact reason but this place is supposed to be loaded with doctors so maybe one can elaborate ;)

Anyway, he can't bend the first joint or two.

Wishing for a speedy recovery bud, good luck.

Man this sucks buddy, positive thoughts your way...

I was in a MC wreck and torched my fretting arm from fingers to shoulder. After multiple surgeries and a shitton of rehab I can play again, relearned 3 times. A positive outcome is possible man. Keep at it!
