Check this beauty out, and it even has a Santana neck.

And NO, it's not mine. Yet ;)

I'm trying VERY hard to make this happen.

The guy that owns it is friend of a friend.

I've got a '70 Gibson ES-335 that this Goldtop DGT owner is interested in doing a trade for.

My '83 335 Dot is a way better guitar than the '70 for playabiiity, tone, and the neck is amazing.

My '70 335 has the notorious thin neck at the nut, has original very bright and hot T-Top humbuckers, the orignal trapaze was converted to a stop tailpiece before I got it, no original case, and has weathered checking all over the body.

Here's some pics of my '70 335:

I KNOW I'm asking the wrong crowd here, but am I getting the better of the trade here?

I'd have to go play it and make sure I like the neck on this guitar, and he'd have to like the neck and tone of my 335.

So this is by far a done deal, but I could/might happen.

If it doesn't, I still have my '09 PRS DGT, so life it still good.

I can guess what the most common answer will be ;)

If you like the '83 and don't like the '70, seems like a no-brainer to move the '70.

I don't know if there's a PRS I'd trade the '83 Dot for.

I'd probably regret it, and I'd probably never find another that sounds and plays like this one.

I know there's PRS guitars worth 4-5X what the Dot is worth, but it's not about the price.

When a guitar is amazing and has that something special, you NEVER EVER let it go.

I'm amazed at how skinny those necks in 70 were. I played a few at Jimmy Wallace guitars here in Dallas.

If the 70 doesn't get played, let it go

Honestly I don't really play it hardly at all.

The guitar was actually a barter with a customer of mine.

Condensed version of story.

I spot guitar at customers home, we talk, I mention if he ever wants to sell, he says he'd trade material and labor for the guitar.

I buy materials to do job and do the install.

Materials cost me $165 and 1 1/2 hours of my time for install

So I got this guitar in 8 yrs. ago for $165 and 1 1/2 hrs. labor.

I really have nothing invested in this guitar, I never played it out live, and its lived in it case most of the time I've owned it.

So I'm willing to part with it if the other guy will agree to the trade.

Unfortunately we're going to play each others guitars, and my fear is he's not going to like the guitar either.

I guess I'll know soon enough.

Ok, so I sent pictures of my '70 to the owner of the Goldtop DGT, but he was gigging last night, so I haven't heard back from him yet.

He's a full time musician who's played this guitar pretty regularly but not exclusively at his gigs.

I guess their would be no way to know what all the original relicing PRS did and what he's added to it, and it really doesn't matter.

So he's asking short of $4K for this guitar, and our trade might be an alternative to him selling it outright.

So my question to the forum is, what might have this custom made PRS DGT have cost him to have made?

He's not offering up that information, but it kinda of matter's to me, based on his cash asking price.

I'm putting the value on mine between $3500-$4000, whether anyone thinks, including myself, that it's worth this type of money.

I found a recent completed auction for a guitar very similar to mine.

It also has the converted stop bar tailpiece, and the changed out tuners, but my guitar is in better overall condition, and mine doesn't have the mini-toggle pickup split switch installed on the top of the guitar

The seller in this auction claimed that this 335 was a '70/'71 based on the serial number, but this guitar has the white/blue/purple paper label which makes puts it between '73-'75.
The last orange paper labels were last used in 1970, and it's the label that's in my '70 335.

Here's the auction where the this guitar sold for basically $3200.
