Hello, I am the proud owner of an SE Angelus acoustc/electric single cutaway guitar and I am having an issue with the onboard tuner. I can switch it on, tune the guitar - no problem! But when I go to switch it back off it won't turn off. I have tried switching to a fresh 9-volt battery but still the same problem. In fact the only way I can get it to turn off is to remove the battery & clear the capacitor if it's charge. Any ideas?

Wow, I seem to have passed by this sub-forum for a while.

Are you pressing and holding for about 2 or 3 seconds? That's how it turns off. Not just press and release quickly like you do to turn it on.

Pozdrav, ja sam ponosni vlasnik SE Angelus akustične/električne single cutaway gitare i imam problem s ugrađenim tunerom. Mogu ga uključiti, ugoditi gitaru - nema problema! Imate li ideja?
SAme problem, after 8 years normal working

It sounds like there might be a malfunction with the onboard tuner in your SE Angelus acoustic/electric guitar. Here are a few steps you can take to troubleshoot and possibly resolve the issue:

Troubleshooting Steps

  1. Reset the Tuner:
    • Removing the battery and clearing the capacitor seems to reset the tuner temporarily. Ensure you do this process correctly: remove the battery, wait for a minute to let any residual charge dissipate, and then reinsert the battery.
  2. Inspect the Battery Compartment:
    • Check for any signs of corrosion or poor connections in the battery compartment. Clean the contacts with a small brush and some isopropyl alcohol if necessary.
  3. Check for Firmware Issues:
    • Some onboard tuners have firmware that can occasionally have glitches. Unfortunately, updating or resetting the firmware on onboard tuners is not usually something end-users can do, but it's worth checking the manual or PRS's website for any updates or instructions.
  4. Contact PRS Support:
    • If the above steps do not resolve the issue, it might be a hardware problem. Contact PRS customer support for further assistance. They may have specific troubleshooting steps for your model or might advise sending the guitar in for repair.
  5. Professional Repair:
    • If the tuner is still not functioning properly, consider taking the guitar to a professional technician. They can inspect the electronics more thoroughly and might be able to fix or replace the tuner.

Temporary Workaround

While you are troubleshooting or waiting for repairs, you can use an external tuner. Clip-on tuners or pedal tuners can be a good alternative to ensure your guitar stays in tune without relying on the onboard system.
