Okay, I am legit drunk as a skunk right now, but you jabronis are seriously crazy for replacing the old McCarty pups. I was playing a neckthru walnut and maple reinforced guitar with SD distortion, a PRS SE 245, an Epi G-400 pro, and a McCarty from 2004 today on my Mesa Mark IV from 1992 toned to Metallica's Black album on channel 3 and the Distortion and McCarty came out on top easily. Those pickups are out of this world classic, PAFfy, and versatile. I'll swear by them any day over the more modern stuff, and challenge any nay-sayers to a duel with rapiers and bucklers. You're goin down. I have righteousness and God on my side, and all you have is da modern devil. You're history. Shame! SHAME!!!
McCarty all the way, baby!!!

My PRSi are the only instruments I've never even considered swapping out the pickups on.

Even my Strandy I'm considering replacing the Suhr-things with some fluence.

But the PRS, dunno, something about the builds, the pups are always just exactly what they should be to me. Even my Special with the HFS/VB - it's just what the guitar is.

I would moon you Les, but I can’t see the camera when holding it at that angle. Hmmmm, maybe I can use some mirrors. :D

DOINK! I dunno if that's the "official" New Foum Term "officially" but I had to give the OP...I mean, he even fully disclosed...so I yeah...I said it... @DreamTheaterRules .
...What say you? ;)

Metallica & PAFfy?

Funny how we all have different ideas of what PAF is.
The tone from the amp isn't PAF, the pickups are PAFfy tho. James used active EMG 81s into a Mesa Mark IV on lead channel (obviously) to record the black album, but PAF/vintage type pickups to me have been sounding better and better with every style and genre for about the past year. Also, sick of active pickups, sick to death of them. One-trick ponies.

Sweet guitar BUT........my McCarty with 8515/5909 combo is the bomb.

I like liked the neck but the bridge was boring to me.

In fact, I like this combo so much I SOLD the original McCarty pickups.

I hope you are still drunk when you read this!!!!

No such luck, I'm sober as a . . . thing that's really sober. Yeah.
FEH, these pickups are great, and you cray.
I will say that I'm definitely not a fan of any of the jiggery pokery of splitting, paralleling, reverse phasing, tappin, and all that jazz. I know, funny to just prefer humbucker on a humbucker guitar and SC on an SC guitar when I like PRS so much, the pioneer of such things. Just the pickups, ma'am.
