That pretty much sums it up right there.

I'll post about who I am in the "Introduce Yourself", but here I'll tell the tale on how and why I bought my first PRS, a SE Silver Sky.

I had been looking at different profile necks, namely Fender V shape, to try to add something different than the typical C shape. Hopefully something with a little more beef to it, maybe a wisp of shoulders. V profile Fender Strats aren't to common in the wild, but I did find and try a few. A used Classic '50s Series, and a new AVIIRI '57. Well, the MIM Classic had a soft V, very subtle but to me not much different than the C profile. The MIA had a '57 V profile, while a hair fuller than the MIM, really not that much different from the Classic.

I have a point to this...

When the PRS SE Silver Sky (Indo Cor-Tek) was introduced, the Fender/Squier fanboy in me refused to accept this as an option. You know what I mean; "It's not a real Strat." Still, I gave it a whirl at the shop. Build and feel did not feel better nor worse than a Squier Classic Vibe, but the SE is a bit pricey at $850. What I did like about the SE was it's neck, chunky, like a full rounded C. And the tones are quite good, too.

A few years would pass, I'd go to the shop and try this and that out, then end the experience playing an SE. Still love the neck, but it's not a Fender/Squier Strat.

Well, that finally changed. My local shop had the SEs in stock on sale, by a lot. Played it yet again, and decided to trade in my little used Fender Player Strat towards the purchase of the PRS SE Silver Sky. I love it. Not fanboy love, but love in the sense of looking beyond one manufacturer for the sake of overall playability of an instrument.

I've yet to perform a full setup yet, I'm waiting on a few StewMac tools to arrive, and I've yet to take any model shots but I'll post some simple pics now.

Congrats and welcome. As you've learned the quality and price of SE's can make them awesome values. Even more so with used, especially in situations where you can try them out before committing lots of $ or dealers with great reputations.

And great cat(s) and great place to live though traffic's way worse now than long ago.

Well, the SE is a quality instrument, but to my budget minded sense it's not a good value at street price. Still, I dig the instrument, supported my local music shop and was able to buy a new SE SS at a price I was comfortable with. Conversely, in the SE SS's price-point favor, I could never get that type of neck carve with any Squier Strat, or I'd have to shell out some drachmas for a Fender RI that would probably have a rosewood board--not my board of choice.

Like I mentioned earlier, the SE SS's neck won me over. So, your awesome value assessment rings true. Thanks.

Yes, love 'em!

Sorry, my friend. Spam in a can is only marginally better than the other kind. Welcome to you and the kitties.

Those are fighting words in this household, but then again, your distaste for glorious Spam just means more for me!

My cats and I thank you for your welcome.

Warm welcome to the mad house

Seems just fine up in here, thanks.

Thanks.

Welcome to the Jungle

Forget about the fun and games, I'm here for the punch and pie...thanks.

If you are jumping into the PRS pool, that is one beautiful way to do it! The blue SS with maple board is an amazing combination. Congrats.

Thank you.

"Old" guy who has no problems posting images on this forum? I don't believe this for a second..

Haha, jk--welcome to the forum. Very nicely taken pics by the way!

That's funny right there! Heck, I predate the ARPANET, so I should be able to post a pic on the interweb-thingy.

Thanks!
