DTR,

You are one of several people on this forum of whom I have the utmost respect for. Although you may not know me personally, I'm not what some might call a "bad Santa," though there will be references to that in the future.

I have my own ways of understanding things that many do not "get," and could more effectively help you understand without the expected criticism that will accompany this.

For clarity, here's my answer:

1) Sand
2) Rocks
3) Thorns & weeds
4) Enriched loam

Which do you think grows better crops?

No need to thank me, this is about as simple as I can make it without using a college degree to do so.

I don’t know what loam is, but it sounds like dirt, so I’m going to vote for 4! What do I win?

An amazingly good crop of whatever you're growing. Enjoy, and no, it's not always about working out at the gym. Sometimes, it's about doing real things, like cultivating a vegetable garden, that is your exercise, that also puts food on your table. No college education necessary.

Just know that growing anything is dependent on several factors:

1) Good soil
2) Good tilling
3) Correct planting
4) Precipitation
5) Sunshine
6) Weeding
7) Binding up
8) Protecting against Predatory Animals (Infestations, Opportunist Animals)
9) Harvesting

All of these above contribute to good cultivation. You don't need to stop and smell the flowers all the time, what you need is to realize that the growing season involves pollination that produces crops.

My Mom is hoping to find some plants that are bee and butterfly attractors, so her garden will grow more vigorously. With her suggestion, I may try to do the same.

When you realize that it is the farmers and gardeners who provide our food supply, you have a better appreciation of what gardens are about. Not parks. Gardens.

I am totally lost.......

No worries.

What we've seen locally is about people exercising in state parks, hiking for exercise. Doesn't take a college degree to know how to walk on park trails.

My previous post is an alternative for those who wish to exercise by working out in their garden, cultivating either flowers or vegetables. You'll note in the next week or so what I mentioned about soil varieties will prove truthful.

Like many of you, I didn't get the fact that Howie could be pulling our collective legs with his Experience 2020 post. I took it for granted that someone had mailed him an invitation after Exp 2020's time had come and gone.

So being the ever gullible guy who isn't the quickest on the uptake, I was serious and thought to share something slightly unusual...not a rare and illusive variety of fish species, mind you, just something you might appreciate.

You must remember that my fishing skills are limited to "doing my job" in a variety of ways. However clumsy that may seem. The fact is, like humans learned agricultural ways after they were hunters, gatherers and fishermen, I prefer to think of myself as further along the timeline than, um....the guy "doing his job"...

I'm lost too. But, I have a suspicion... I was out trying with the rototiller last night, TRYING to get the first good tilling job done in our garden. It was too wet and I only got about 25% of the garden done and the tiller was so caked with mud it wouldn't run. But, all this stuff CP is talking about is a cycle we just started. Is he watching me? Does he have some kind of surveillance on me????:eek::eek:

But, that said, I plan on going fishing this weekend. o_O

So apparently I face a moral dilemma that I wasn't even aware of! Am I a cultivator? Or a Fisherman? It's ironic to face this dilemma now, as I had two different rototillers running just last night, then came in the house and put new line on two brand new bait casters. (Abu Garcia Pro Rockets, for those keeping score at home).

So, I'm not sure, but I think I might be BOTH! I have a garden. I grow food. I fish. Now I'm worried....

JUST WHO AM I??? :eek::eek::eek:

I think DTR is saying he likes a strong hand on the tiller! I’m guessing Julie B fits the bill!

Well, TBH, you're just more human than the rest of us,. and well-rounded, too. Those who fish and grow food make up a larger part of the male population, though many guys just prefer to fish, and let the women tend to the gardening, because it beautifies the house and yard.

I personally prefer to think of gardening as exercise, like building something can be considered exercise. Folks might say, I work in an office. I might say, there's now an app for that. I may not be the brightest crayon in the box, but I do apply myself.

Some men like to fish, grill and BBQ. Women like to garden. If your family consists of only one person, you can do as much or as little as you see fit. My consistent preference has always been gardening and home improvement. Because both involve maintenance and upkeep of one's household.

Fishing, by comparison, is either for sport or a day or so's food. We always have choices, and I'm not suggesting you follow one or another specifically. I just find more contentment in gardening and home improvement...my feeling is that I don't have these mad skills as a fisherman. Though many people get mad when they can't catch a fish. Words to the wise.

well, not that it is completely unheard of here... ok, it’s not even necessarily that unusual, but I’m completely lost in my own thread. It’s not that the topic changed, it’s that I don’t even know what we’re talking about! :D:D

To bring the thread back to topic here, I think that that I have at least figured out the motivation behind the invitation. Regardless of it’s underhanded implementation, the fact is, I can now no longer say that I wasn’t invited to Experience. So at least one person wanted me there. Now, I just have to figure out why they wanted me there after the event was over. And THEN I’ll have things figured out. ;)

Maybe they wanted you to shut up about being invited and being there, but without actually having to put up with your presence. Not that anything like that has ever happened to me...
