I’m with Sinsir. When I’m on the hunt, I’m usually looking for a specific model in a specific color. I’m too close to the factory for Craigslist. Some sellers want the same price as new. I’ll do the bay, reverb, word of mouth, I even got one from Craigslist in San Francisco. If you’re looking for a particular model, you can even google that model. Now if I could only find that Blue Swamp Ash CE24, that’s been sold less than an hour after I had the money, TWICE............................

I used to check CL near the factory because I thought there'd be better deals. I was mistaken!

They say “11top” on Reverb is the place to go.

And who can argue with They?

I bought my HB 1 at my local store, Lidgett Music. (Which is where I bought all 3 of my PRS guitars.) But this was somewhat of a freakish coincidence. This is the only local store that carries PRS and he rarely has used guitars in inventory, much less a used PRS. He was selling a used hollowbody on consignment for some people at the same time I was looking for a HB or at least something light. I happened in the store and saw it, played it and fell in love.

I've never purchase on Reverb but have come close a couple times. I've sold on Reverb. If I were looking for used again it certainly be where I would start.

Demand has indeed exceeded supply. Thinking about a reload.

Do you think that GC is the most "risk free" in terms of being able to return the guitar should you not like it? I found my McCarty Korina on there (I still have a month and a half to decide if I want to part ways, but most likely not) - the pics are always soooo bad but I did speak with 2 local managers about a certain guitar, got additional pics/modcat, and they were like "just try it out, and return it in 45 days if you don't like it". I think one day shipping was only $60 so you could essentially "rent" the guitar for $60 and return to a local store if you didn't like it or was too banged up. Made me want to take a flyer on a few of them.

Sherman built a second set of pickups when I ordered my last set from him. I keep thinking about how there are just sitting there waiting for me to find a new guitar to put them in.

    You’re being generous.

GC must issue a StarTac flip phone to each location for this purpose.

This is what I did at GC. I ran the SE Custom 24 right up to 44 days and GC took it right back, no questions. It was a relief they honored the window.

Just speaking logically here, I'd think the best place to shop for used PRS would be from guys who
    - have PRS guitars
    - take good care of them
    - have money so they don't really need to sell them for top dollar

I don't know... if you find a place like that, please let me know

    I've had really good luck.
Ebay was the first. Then a forum member, then a great local CL deal, and Reverb has been great too.

I did, A Fender Modern Player Tele and a mandolin. Sold them both when I bought the S2 594

Thanks (curses) for pointing me at Dave's! Trying to snag a used SE off there. Wish me luck...

I gotten a few from reverb, but since they increased their fees, in general prices seem to be going up there. I'm hardwired to only be able to get a guitar if it's a "great deal", and lately that has been harder there, but every so often I still find one. Also the used 'sight unseen' purchase is always a risk, even from reputable dealers. I've learned the hard way that if details are lacking, there might be a reason, so I try to ask detailed questions. The guitar in my avatar is gorgeous and came from a well-loved reputable dealer, but had some rather serious issues (now resolved) which might not have mattered to some, but sucked for me, and were definitely NOT what I was expecting to find on a "very good" guitar. So ask LOTS of questions about the things that are important to you if they aren't specified in the listing.

eBay scares me at this point because there are so many duplicates of the same guitar it's hard to know what's real.

My best deals in general come from my local CL, but I live in SF, so the number of local listings is huge. Smaller markets don't have the numbers. I've also met some really nice people buying and selling on CL. Malo's current guitar player recently bought my L6S and we chatted for probably 2 hours; super sweet guy.

    I always prefer an in-person, play-it-first experience.
