Australia, then just keep going south till you can
but after spending all weekend on the forum, I'm trying to work out how to afford a USA model :(

The problem is I have this lovely 1990 Ibanez 540S, which is just a beautiful guitar which I've played for 15 years, but would rather a dual humbucker guitar with gobs of sustain, hence my looking at PRS'. Now I will need to sell the Ibanez to finance the PRS, but I'm just not falling for the finishes on the SE's that offer a fixed bridge. I don't want to go from something I love the look of, to something that sounds great but just doesn't offer the zing of being a beautiful instrument to own too. Such a pity those UK quilted tops aren't available in Aus!

Anyway, just sharing my pain.

The SE models are great guitars. I joined at the beginning if the year as I was hoping to grab a US model at some point. To tide me over I bought a SE, bargain on eBay, it served me well until I picked up my US over the weekend.

Have the S2 models hit Aus yet? Good value there if you like them.

my quilted top se 245 is a great looking guitar. even my guitar tutor who has a custom 22 artist package with a nice figured maple top(birds eye i think) is jealous of the quilt on mine. plus now its got #7 pickups in it sounds as good as it looks. in England the s2 series are going for second hand American made money (£1249 so i would get a second hand one.

Where are you in Aus Lance?? You are welcome to check some out if you are close by.

Welcome Lance! If you can find one, the SE Akesson's have a quilt top and stoptail. I was never a fan of the guitar til I saw it firsthand, and fell in love... now it's my #1. Otherwise, best of luck with your search!

Well, we all have our own "quilty" pleasure guitars, don't we?

That said, as Desperado had suggested, the S2 series are great ones. However, there's only the Miras coming with stoptails and there will be no maple top, so that's something to think about if you ever feel like getting a USA-made one at half the price. If you don't mind, the S2 Custom does come in Tobacco Burst and Dark Cherry Sunburst too, which looks very nice from what I saw. The vibrato system is no Floyd Rose, so it'll sustain a lot better but still cover a lot of the whammy stuff well.

And also the Mira if you are okay with the pickguard and no maple top.

That too! It's essentially an SE 245 with an adjustable stoptail. The Forntida Brun almost looks like black to me from far away, but close up there's definitely some mojo going on with the top

Hi AussieLance

You need to get over to Melbourne

Check out Guitar Paradise in Richmond - short Tram ride from CBD

http://www.guitarparadise.com.au/electric-guitars/prs-se-series

Their web site re PRS hasnt changed for ages but when I was last there ( I'm from Sydney) they carried several SE's and ordered me in a Tremonti SE which was available the next day ( they txt'd me to say that it'd arrived). The're only " down the road" from the importer/distributor ( Electric Factory) and phoned them up to check what was "in stock" - great service.

It'd be worth contacting them.

Good Luck.

I contacted the importer to ask where in Melb had good floor stock, and he mentioned them too. Extremely helpful. Even suggested I call him next time I'm going to Melb and he'll check for me which retailer has the best selection on the floor. What kind of service is that! Fantastic!
