I just got a beautiful purple 2001 CE22. On the hanger tag it says, what looks like (2of ) written above the serial number. Has anyone ever seen anything like this or know the reason. It was diffidently written at the same time the tag was filled out.
thanks

Looks like 2nd (second ) to me. Never saw that written on a Hang Tag before.
Does the back of the headstock have anything stamped on it (like a 2 or a B)?

Consider the possibility that it is a meaningless scribble denoting nothing whatsoever to do with the guitar, made 14 years ago by someone you'll likely never meet who might just have been trying out his or her new pen. It's a 100% insoluble mystery, but the good news is that it needn't be solved at all! :top:

Do you save the hang tags from your new vacuum cleaner? No. You throw them away. Same with the sticker that comes on your package of AA batteries. Or the tags that come with your new suit. That's what should be done with guitar hang tags, too. ;)

It is pointless to save them, and only encourages those impossible collectors to demand more and more of what they call "case candy." I mean, just try and eat that stuff. It's not candy at all!

Give the sticker to your kid, throw away the damned hang tag and the plastic pouch and the warranty card you can now replace with online registration, and maybe, if you're so inclined, save the instruction manual. You are however encouraged to read the out-of-date Signature magazine they throw in the case in the bathroom. As far as the included accessory catalog goes, that's probably out of date, too. Optional bathroom reading material, I guess, if your thing is drooling over trem arms and such.

Don't be afraid to take the modcat sticker off the end of the case and stick it to your pet rock. Unfortunately, the world lost the guy who was most into the case modcat stickers and whether dates matched the guitar precisely. He was a nice guy at heart.

Join me in the Movement Against Saving Meaningless Guitar Fluffery! Who's up for burning their hang tags the way we used to burn draft cards back in the 60s?

Don't give in to the fear of not saving the hang tags because of The Man's threats that the guitar won't sell on the used market down the road! Stand up for your freedom!

We don't need no damned Private Stock Certificate!

And above all, never trust anyone over 30 (guitars!) :five:

I find they make great bookmarks, the string hangs outside the book perfectly.

I think it reads 'Zwl'. I'm not sure that doesn't raise more questions than it answers.

You've clearly overlooked that this guitar was never owned by Dana. ONLY ZUUL.

I emailed the picture to PRS.
LS , I never thought of my guitar as a vacuum.. When the vacuum or suit gets old you throw it in the trash.
I guess everyone has opinions. I personally feel the value it hurt by not having the case candy. It's like a birth certificate.

I pretty much agree with Les on this, except for the burning the draft card part..........................................
But if you are into the tags and whatnot............... well hell, have at it. Do what makes you happy. As long as it don't affect me, I don't give a **** what you do with your hangtags. But Im not gonna pay more for the guitar because of it. Unless its a collectors item like a Dragon or a 59 Les Paul or something. And I cant afford one of those anyway.

If the guitar is not modified, the tag is still a useful place to find info such as neck carve, pickups, etc. that someone could forget, and a new owner would want to know.

They're not really important to have, but they're also not completely worthless.

While Les firmly presses his tongue to his cheek, I think it will be interesting to see if PRS responds to the query and what they say...

BTW, looking at the pic, the '2' in the scribble appears to have been written by the assembler, with the same pen, who wrote the '2's in the model section.

An interesting mystery. Though I doubt it will affect the value of the guitar one way of the other...

Interesting, I've never seen anything like that on a hang tag.

Les, are you off your meds again???? :p

If yo look at it in the mirror...it looks like "Les"....

Hey, when I look in the mirror it looks like "Les" too!

Uncanny.

Just to be clear, I did save my danged hang tags and PS certificates, ruined my draft card when I went swimming with my wallet in my pocket in the summer of 1970, and got drafted anyway. They never asked for the card.

I did organize and participate in the One Man March On Washington back in the early 1980s. It was stirring. I stood on the steps of the Washington Monument with a megaphone and was cheered by a throng of myself as I shouted, "It's All BS! It's All BS!!"

I guess it's too late to burn my draft card. But I still may have a ceremony and burn my hang tags! Who's with me!!!?!!

LS , I never thought of my guitar as a vacuum.. When the vacuum or suit gets old you throw it in the trash.

You, sir, clearly need to start buying appliances and suits with collector value!

Incidentally - this is an absolutely true story - a few years ago I asked one of my good friends who I'd been in a band with in high school what he ever did with his 1965 Fender Jaguar, because I thought it'd be cool to talk to him about buying it. My friend is now an eye surgeon, super smart, great guy. Doesn't know much about guitars though.

He said, "Funny that you should ask, I finally got around to throwing it out in the trash last week."

Les, are you off your meds again???? :p

Vaughn, the older I get, the more bottles of meds I have to deal with. Could be!

I found the B on the headstock.
Hi Art,

Thanks for contacting PRS Guitars.
Our guitars that have a minor issue most likely with the finish are used as artist guitars and are generally given to players that are sponsered by PRS. These guitars may have a note on the hangtag and are generally stamped with a B stamped on the headstock.

Thanks,
Sean
