NPD - 57/08

Very nice. I have a set of the uncovered squabbins and really love those pickups. I bought a nickel covered set for my ‘04 McRosie and it’s one of my most played guitars I own. 59/09’s pair very well with 57/08’s if you want to switch things up for a hybrid set. Enjoy!

Dig! Rare. Don't see those too often.
I got a set of square bobbin 5708s shortly after they came out and put them in my emerald ce24.

Had em in there for a long time. Loved that neck pickup but just couldn't fall in love with bridge pickup.

I picked up a covered bridge 5708 and put it in my McCarty when I was struggling with LT bridge PU. It sounded good but didn't get me excited. HDRX 20 head made me put LT back in it and it sounds fantastic.

I'm putting 5310 in vela if stock PU doesn't work but I've also thought about that covered 5708.

That’s what’s in my PS. Works great! I am disappointed I didn’t order a matching squabbin bridge 5708 just to have a matching set.
I have a theory that the neck 57/08 is the same pickup as currently made neck \m/. When I get myself organised, I will take some measurements

Do You Mean Bridge 57/08 Is The Same As The Neck \M/? To My Ears, They All Sound Different From Each Other But A Neck 57/08 And A Neck \m/ Don't Sound The Same In My Experience. In Fairness, I Haven't Tried All These Combinations In The Same Guitar To Come To An Isolated Conclusion.

They’re different sounding to me. I have a full \m/ set in a different guitar.
According to PRS customer service, the \m/ went trough the changes past recent years. The TCI set I have is an alnico bridge and neck. The current covered Ms are apparently the same according to PRS CU. I will test the resistance/capacitance/inductance when I get a moment. My life since I got back from Scotland is a living hell

No, both the neck \m/ and 57 on the PRS accessories have the same resistance and magnet. That alone means nothing, so it's just a theory for now. At some point I will figure it out.

The charts looks quite different.

I Imagine it would be easy to swap the magnet of this one for a Alnico5. It is one thing I would like to try with my 57/08 neck PU. But they are covered and first series, so kind of "hands off".
A friend and member here helped me find a set of the older covered 57/08’s. They have a black and gold sticker. Is that the set you’re referring to? I put them in my McRosie and DAMN does that guitar sound good. I just got another McCarty from 2000 and will likely yank the McCarty pickups for something else that I haven’t tried.

I have been thinking about pairing the bridge pickup with the 57/08 neck I bought last month, and as much as I could give the 59/09 another chance, I will go with the 85/15. I know I already have one in my Custom, but hear me out. Some time ago, after my Custom returned from the fret-work, the tech decided to do a full setup to my guitar, calling it optimal. Well, it took me the whole afternoon to put it back to optimal for ME, but one thing he did, and I kind of liked, is he lowered the bridge 85/15 to the pickup frame level. Not the usual setup I liked for this guitar, but I liked the less pronounced harmonic content; it purred very nicely. I could do with another guitar and that tone. It's still early stage, as I'm not financially in the position to purchase a new or used guitar; I have sofa and a few other bits and pieces on the shopping list first for the new house, but so far, this is the idea I like the best
